...is it just me, or does anyone else get negative reviews from people who clearly didn't read their stories carefully and get their facts straight?

I got one such review for Chapter 3 of "Selfish Mom". The guy or gal claimed that I was making women in it "2nd class citizens". Not correct (though I might write a story like that in time, since there are plenty where MEN are even worse off). Instead, I was making "enemies of the state", regardless of gender/sex, 2nd class citizens. That tends to happen in a revolution/civil war scenario (the background for my story to a large extent). Hell, she was even being dominated by another WOMAN!

Soon after the Valentine's contest, I got a silly PM from "Anonymous" who had a gripe about the "magic" featured in Be Mine being more Voodoo than Wicca. WTF???

well as an aspiring writer, that kind of reviews scare me in advance

Don't let them intimidate you, that's exactly what they want.

My personal favorite was fairly recent. It was very concise, and to the point:

"You suck bitch."

:D :D :D

Yep, that's DEFINITELY inaccurate.

You mean that there might be trolls who ACTUALLY read the stories they are trolling???

A review, unless one with venom, can't be inaccurate if that is what the reader felt or saw from your writing. I would say let it go or laugh. The question is a matter confidence. If you feel you need to justify the pupose of your story, as you are in the above, don't you wonder whether or not you were able to articulate what you intended in the first place?

:)

When I do some of my sci-fi, non-human stories I tend to use Gods, Goddesses and other beings that are mythical in some form or fashion from different religions... The Ancient Rite is one of those stories... and If I am not mistaken on the chapter one of that and on my earth day with the gods story someone slammed both stories for being inaccurate... funny enough I posted the information that I used as a comment under the story and the comment who is or was at the time an author on Lit continued after me still

What's your asshole hubby doing giving feedback on your stories?

Well, whaddya want for nothing? Much of the time I can't even be sure what they've said, because there were no sentences. My negative public comment attacked me, not my story. I guess the story was incidental. It was like "You suck bitch" only less concise. It said the author was a sick something-or-other, I forget what.

Cloudy should have said "Yes, but what did you think of the story?"

The trouble is, you can't, because the cowards are anonymous. All anonymous complaints deserve the dumpster.

well, my reaction was along the lines of "....and this is news, how?"

:D

I didn't dispute the PC, either; for all I know, I'm sick enough to go on with. It was a sentence, however baffling. So I left it up.

I would suspect that everyone who has submitted several stories has at least once gotten the type of review where the comment is "Your treatment of Fifi LaVavavoom shows your total disrespect for women." You have several snappy replies, but are somewhat hampered by the fact that there is no Fifi LaVavavoom character in your story.

OK, top this: "I am giving you a one vote because I don't like the way you are going to end your story." [The story was a multi-chapter story and was released one chapter per day, of course.] A couple of days later, the last chapter was released and trollboy says, "Hey, it didn't end like I thought it was gonna."

If I could have been sure of getting a jury of authors, I would have killed the son of a bitch! Authors would never have convicted me.

It always shocks me when someone who didn't take the time to actually read my story writes a comment, considering how low the general comment rate is.

Do you know what I really fucking hate... the thing that absolutely drives me fucking bonkers?

It's when someone nitpicks at your story in that absolutely condencending fashion... and they can't read. Because EVERYTHING they're nitpicking at is explained away in the story.

Someone nitwit actually flamed me because when he raised his 'concern', I replied with (only) a copy and paste of the paragraph that said

A --> B
A
---
B

......

Dammit, if you're going to condescend... at least fucking make it worth my time!

Sincerely,
ElSol

I take the tack that they clearly didn't read it, or it would have been PLAIN as day that a selfish mother had broken the law and was getting punished for her crimes, including by enslavement at the hands of her FEMALE roommate. There was nothing in the story to indicate that women were being turned into 2nd class citizens.
