Will we at least give them hard time.

Or will we continue to be soft of crime.

i.e a bed, and a roof over thier heads, heat, education, cable tv, excerise equipment, paying job, good food, etc.

If we put hardened criminals into solitary instead of club med, I would be happy.

Maybe...

...you should have a close look a real prison sometime. Pay special attention to the places convicted killers go and live with other convicted killers. Spend the rest of my life in one? Nope, I'd rather be dead.

The scary thing is...

...I grew up in the middle of a fundamentally Baptist family (in the buckle of the Bible belt) who felt and talked exactly the same way. BTW, none of them have spoken to me in over five years.

Perhaps...

...this is what Todd would prefer? (WARNING...VERY DISTURBING IMAGE)

This photo was taken April 10, 1905 by Carpeaux who witnessed the execution of Fou-Tchou-Li. It was published by Georges Dumas in Traite de psychologie. The Imperial proclamation was this:

"The Mongolian Princes demand that the aforesaid Fou-Tchou-Li, guilty of the murder of Prince Ao-Han-Ouan, be burned alive, but the Emperor finds this torture too cruel and condemns Fou-Tchou-Li to slow death by Leng-Tch'e (cutting into pieces). Respect this!"

The condemned is drugged heavily with opium to prevent bleeding, unconsciousness, and premature death.

What am I doing with images like this? It's one of my major areas of research, ie the link between eroticism and death which can be traced all the way back to men and women living in caves in France. Surprisingly, this photo was owned by George Bataille (French philosopher) and published in one of his books which deals mainly with religious imagery, the root of most images of torture, eroticism, and death.

There is no doubt in my mind that the punishment of torture and death is less about punishment and more about satisfying primal desires (sexual desires at that) in those around the condemned. No doubt many of McVeigh's victims would have preferred death by 1,000 cuts.

Enjoy it for it truly is the face of death.
