Impeachment Thread

I'll certainly be glad when this whole, stupid waste of time witch hunt is over, so the president can concentrate on his second term. :(

You clearly lack any understanding of how the impeachment process works. You might want to check that.
My interest is purely technical, not being an American citizen, I am only following the process as trump has declared himself the leader of the free world of which I am a part. One thing that trumps isolationist policies seems to have caused is that he will likely be the last to assume that mantle.
Thank god for small mercies.

I was around the second time a US President was impeached (missed the first time, darn it) so I have some understanding: The house votes to impeach and if successful the senate tries the "case". How does this differ from what I posted?

As for your contradictory statements (you can't both be "leader of the free world" AND have isolationist policies) I have nothing but giggles.

Oh, perhaps you meant that ONLY the United States is truly free. In that case, yes, Trump is leader of the free world. However, we aren't really free, just freer than most. And there are other places where freedom can be found. Mostly subjective, though. Freedom, that is.

Sadly, his second term will spent fighting off more pointless and baseless attacks meant only to distract him from his primary job: draining the swamp.

Trump did not declare himself to be that. The US president has been described in that way since the 1940's.

The National Security Council’s top Ukraine expert plans on telling the House impeachment investigators that he was so troubled by Trump’s phone call with Ukraine’s president that he reported his concerns to a superior.

The expert, Army Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Vindman, plans to say that he felt an investigation into former Vice President Joe Biden and the Ukrainian natural gas company connected to Biden’s son, Hunter would undermine U.S. national security. Trump pressured Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenksy for such an investigation multiple times during that July 25th call. There is no evidence of wrongdoing by either Joe or Hunter Biden.

It would seem inevitable that Trump is going to be impeached and convicted. Republican attempts to halt impeachment have been childish and ineffective. Let's take a look at the Republicans childish attempts shall we?

1. Trump called Nancy Pelosi on the phone and asked if he could cut some kind of deal with her and make the impeachment inquiry go away.

2. Trump ordered all former and current government employees to ignore subpoenas issued by the House Intelligence Committee.

3. Trump very publicly complained about the New York Times and Washington Post covering the House inquiry and very loudly, angrily, melodramatically and childishly cancelled his subscriptions.

4. Trump had his lawyers claim that Trump was above the law and that Trump cannot be investigated for any crimes he commits.

5. After all of that failed, a group of Republicans (with Trump's approval) stormed into a closed door session of the House Intelligence Committee, violating national security rules and disrupting testimony of a witness.

All of these are CHILDISH STUNTS and will do NOTHING to prevent Trump from being impeached!

Although, I would like to point out that stunts like this do a lot to drive down the credibility of the Republican party.

Funny how Trump keeps trying to stop witnesses from testifying in this investigation. Since when do innocent people try to silence witnesses?

I thought only GUILTY people tried to pressure witnesses and keep them from talking!

Mob bosses are famous for pressuring witnesses to keep silent and not talk to the cops.

Trump is like Al Capone.....only not as smart or charming.

Is there a difference between the Politics Board and politics in the General Board? Both have impeachment threads.

Yes, the Political Board was created to try to get folks to stop flooding the GB with politics. As you can see, it didn't work.

Explosive testimony from a decorated war veteran rattles Trump’s White House

A new witness in the impeachment investigation of President Donald Trump rocked the White House Tuesday with testimony that he personally witnessed officials pressuring Ukraine to help Trump politically.

National Security Council Ukraine expert Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Vindman was to tell the House inquiry that he twice reported concerns about improper White House efforts to get Kiev to open investigations designed to help Trump politically.

‘Are you a clown school dropout?’ GOP lawmaker ripped to shreds for trying to crash Vindman hearing

A West Virginia Republican tried again to crash a closed-door impeachment inquiry hearing, and was roundly mocked for whining about his rejection.

Rep. Alex Mooney (R-WV) — who shared audio of a phone call he made last week inside the Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility (SCIF) during a protest staged with dozens of GOP lawmakers — attempted to sit in on testimony by Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman before the House Intelligence Committee.

You can not out "Florida-man" a real Florida man, Hilbilly!:D

Trump, as the most senior law enforcement official in the land, certainly seems to to ask a lot of favours requesting that investigating bodies and officials overlook issues.
First Comey, then Pelosi.
Not a good look at all, especially for the president.

Amen to that!

The House Democrats passionately HATE President Trump, but they DON'T have the votes in the U.S. Senate to remove him from office! The end result is that the Dems lose their fight in the senate and TRUMP WINS!

The modern Democratic Party HATES how our U.S. Constitution works. They HATE the electoral college, and now they HATE the U.S. Senate, as well.

Witnesses who knew things about the Clinton crime family in Arkansas & Washington, D.C. tended to commit suicide.

I have no idea who those people are, but I assume they're your "evidence". I'm not actually following the impeachment stuff because it is all crap intended to keep you lefty's all a dither. There's clearly no substance to any of it or Pelosi would have actually called for an impeachment vote instead of just threatening it whenever the the noise dies down.
Then why show your ignorance

Not to mention Pelosi HAS provided a timeline for an impeachment vote. Surely you're not saying she ought to rush in on this before it's been investigated thoroughly?

(Oh, wait, of COURSE that's what you want.)

The investigation/witch hunt has been in progress for almost for years.

Let me guess. It'll be sufficiently investigated to call for an Impeachment VOTE next Summer when the election heats up between Trump and whoever wins the Dem nomination. Purely a coincidence, though.

In a word, no. You obviously haven't read the news about this. Which is your prerogative, but you probably ought to keep your assumptions to yourself until you are informed.

hey, now, you know trump just loves those uneducateds, and they loves him rite back!

interesting clip from a piece where a reporter was going around a big fairground kind of thing, asking different people if they kept up with the political news regarding the impeachment. oddly enough, seems the democratic/independents/reps who were seriously concerned with trump's actions were abreast of it all... the die-harder trump supporters who hadn't changed their minds or even questioned their own opinions didn't listen to the news much and didn't really know anything other than 'dems lying, dems holding secret talks, witch hunt...'

Whelp, young uns, time tah go plow that back 40.

I guess I'll be open won't in a well or do when the vote is called and the Senate trial begins LOL

But don't hold your breath.

Ambassador Bill Taylor’s testimony is a game changer in the impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump.” Republicans, it seems, understand that “Taylor’s statement was so detailed, so specific and that he is so respected that it is having an impact.” Insisting that mere solicitation of a foreign power was not sufficient to impeach, Republicans demanded proof of a quid pro quo. Now, one of CNN’s sources concedes that Taylor’s testimony “points to quid pro quo.”

In contrast to the House Judiciary Committee hearings that bogged down in court fights, the impeachment inquiry is moving quickly and is producing a mound of evidence. Even without a public hearing, Democrats have moved public opinion in favor of impeachment more swiftly than even the strongest supporters of impeachment expected. How is it that Democrats are, for all intents and purposes, “winning” the impeachment inquiry?

First, they have a narrow set of facts and are sticking with the Ukraine scandal (and obstruction thereof). The story has an expanding cast of characters, but the high crime and/or misdemeanor — extorting Ukraine to help President Trump’s reelection — is easy to understand.

Second, they have cooperating witnesses willing to defy the White House’s demands that they not testify. The permanent civil servants have proved to be far more courageous and patriotic than, say, former White House counsel Donald McGahn, who declined to testify under subpoena.

Third, because Trump and his minions — including the hapless acting chief of staff Mick Mulvaney — fail to understand what they have done wrong, we’ve seen serial confessions. The confessions don’t add to witnesses’ credibility, but they unnerve Republicans who, again and again, get the rug pulled out from under their feet.

Fourth, there really is no “other side.” The White House has not really taken issue with the facts and we have yet to hear about any exculpatory evidence. (At worst, Gordon Sondland, the U.S. ambassador to the European Union, claims “not to remember” threatening Ukraine — an improbable claim but, noticeably, not a denial.) The president simply cannot comprehend that using taxpayer money (in the form of foreign aid) to shake down the Ukrainians for his own political purposes is wrong. They might as well stick to the facts in the Senate trial.

Fifth, House and Senate Republicans do not seem to think there is a substantive defense, either. They concoct specious complaints about process because they have nothing else to say.
