We take so many things for granted, don't we? Especially freedom. Particularly if we we born in a free country.

I remember a few years ago having lunch in New York's Chinatown with my son. We were seated in a restaraunt where we were the only Anglos. We sat at a large table with several elegant, older Chinese men. They kept to themselves as we ate and chatted. My son aked me why the Chinese risked so much to get to the U.S. and then settled in an area that recreated their homeland. As I began to answer him, one of the Chinese men spoke at the same time. We both said the same word; FREEDOM.

Never, ever take freedom for granted. Peace and love, folks.

Well there were more trees to start with...........
A major source of deforestation........Our need to wipe our bums with the latest kind of quilted, scented, softest bog paper... Whatever was wrong with those squares of newspaper that used to hang on a nail on the loo wall.

Re-usable sponges.

Your hand. (Maybe the solution's worse than the problem)

Empty Mussel shells. (I kid ye not. In the 17th century these were used and left in case anyone else wanted to use it!)

Doc leaves. (Or similar very wide leaves)

freedom is nice, and i thank all the vets who made it possible, but i think we can work on it some. it is freedom when some crazy guys in a plane blow up buildings and people and now every american alive has to been damn near strip search just to fly or to get to work if they work in the military?? i know it has to be done for our safety but......i think its just a principle matter.

sphagnum was also used by women during their period .
THE romans used to use sponges and like much of the third world used to use their left hands [why you always see a pic of the romans with their left hand inside their toga ]and that is why we shake hands with our right hand as the left hand is considered unclean

Some people (I forget who now) in the near east only eat with their right hand for the same reason, although I'm sure that toilet paper is available to these people as I was told this by an oil geologist who had dined with them.

Freedom is an iffy subject. Personal freedom is a matter of degree. No matter where you are, you are not free. In some places there are more restrictions on your freedom, but there are always restrictions. Which is good because I want restrictions for my own safety.

And a guy from Cambodia crying with joy in front of a christmas spread in the US is just damn happy that he is now in a place where he can binge out on a month's food, without any obvious guns in his face.

Is he now fighting (metaphorically or really) for the relief of third world debt? Or the greater freedom of his countrymen?

I don't take anything for granted. But I don't get starry eyed about such dicey concepts.
Your not talking about freedom, your talking about comfort.
