be careful the laurel/literotica gestapo will arrest you and all your posts will be deleted :)

Good deal! Tell her I said hello!

Seriously though...I think all of us here in the US need to remember what principles make this country great. If we allow the government to tell us what we can say and do and what our morals ought to be, then how are we any different from those we criticize in Afghanistan?

We'd have better TV?

I'm not so sure about that... 'Friends'?

I'm sure it's better than the Afghan equiv. I mean, the hot chicks in their version of Friends would all be covered up. Although the guys would have those crazy beards.

Hey, is this a great idea for a sitcom or what?

However, during times of war, as seen previously in WWI the alien and sedition acts can impresion people for treason for their speach, and they've been on the books since Jefferson (Thomas, not George)

However they may have been repealed. I'm not sure :)

Yes, but that's not what's happening. If you watch the news and read the papers, you'll hear the government make references to the "new normalcy". Only a very, very few of the provisions in the Patriot act expire in 4 years - the rest do not. And if the Supreme Court interprets the Constitution to read that adult speech is not protected speech - as they may do in the upcoming COPA case - then it would take years to reverse the damage...if it ever could be reversed.

I agree that certain measures need to be taken. However, I think we would not doing our part as Americans if we were to sit back and let politicians take America from us. Questioning the actions and motivations of politicians is not unpatriotic. Standing by while politicians turn America into a fundamentalist police state IS.

This is not a right-wing vs. left-wing, Republican vs. Democrat issue. Bad decisions are being made on both sides of the fence. Those of us throughout the political spectrum who support the Bill of Rights and the principles on which this country is founded need to be aware of what our elected officials are doing.
