I'm leaving tonight for Orlando, Florida. God, I'm going from one sun-baked plastic city to another. The things we do for family at Xmas time. Sheesh.

I confess to being a little nervous about flying. They've changed my seat assignment five times already. They seem skittish and overwhlemed. I can't help feeling that the airlines are a bit Lucy and Ethel at the candy machine right now. I just hope they remember where Florida is and stuff.

I've flown 2 round trips since 9/11 and didn't have too bad a time. Be prepared to see armed soldiers at the airport (that was the hardest for me) and having to show your ID 3 times just to get on the plane. Also, they're doing random checks pretty often right before boarding and actually searching people's bags. They do this by seat number, as far as I can tell. The first trip, they just called the seat numbers over the intercom. The second trip they didn't, but I saw people being searched all the same. Again, it seems random.

Otherwise, the flights were fine.

It's actually cooled down slightly here in the sunshine state. I'm in the south and we've finally gotten down into the low 70s.

Having lived in both areas, it is my opinion that Orlando is far superior to Anahiem in beauty, cost of living, and the general laid back attitude out here. Come to Orlando and enjoy the difference. Perhaps it is time to stay and forget the left coast.

Hey, I flew to DC in November--not too bad, even when the day I returned was when there was that AA crash in NYC. First time I knew was when the local news people were interviewing folks on line checking in.
