In 1885 the English explorer and eroticist Sir Richard Burton published his famous translation of the 1001 Arabian Nights - a poetic masterpiece of oriental erotic literature. The Victorians were obsessed with fantasies of harems and slave girls, exotic desert palaces and veiled dancing girls. A host of early photographers such as Nadar, Moreau, Neurdein, Lehnert and Landrock were quick to exploit these obsessions - producing hundreds of portraits of Arab, Bedouin and Moorish women, in various states of artistic undress. Many have survived as postcards.
This ebook edition from FishesEye Publishing is an exclusive illustrated anthology of over 100 vintage risqué images, from the harems and kasbahs of Northern Africa and the Middle East, girls from the "quartiers reservés" and "maisons closes" of old British and French French colonies: Morocco, Algeria, Turkey, Libya, Tunisia, Egypt... in our opinion many of the very best photos from the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
