The story starts with the male protagonist just finishing up being given an orientation by his new boss for his new job as a grocery store clerk. He's been told how to handle shoplifters but is further instructed, "But if you see her (a small picture is shown) shoplifting, just pretend you don't notice. " When asked if she is poor and needs the food, he is given a "No."
In fact, she pays for almost everything she buys. However, she also consistently hides a phallic food item up her vagina, often waving at store employee or a camera while stealing it (though she is careful to keep her fellow customers from catching on). If the store is mostly empty, she'll even get off on it. Sometimes she'll pull it out and then eat it while in line (in which case she does pay for it).
