I don't think it's fairly common, whether one is looking at the population as a whole or at a more kink friendly subset of women, such as here on Lit. If it was a fairly common feeling, I think we'd be hearing more about it. I spend most of my time here in the PG and AmPics. From what I have seen, it's not a commonly desired relationship situation for most of the women on these boards.

As for the age aspect of it, I was involved in a polyamorous situation in my early 20s. Not that I knew that term then. So, for me, it's not a feeling that developed over time, but a feeling that I have had for most of my adult life.

Monogamy with someone else. She is an amazing woman I would love to start a life with if I didn't have the attachments I have now.
But then the two children I have wouldn't be here and I would have missed a bunch.

No need to start fresh. I may often roll around past experiences in my mind, but it's natural for someone to reminisce every now and then. Since my wife doesn't want to hear about such things, I guess maybe just a confidante for these things as they roll around in my head.
