If you believe in a chosen organized religion, why?

Do you have a better reason than its what you were raised with?

This seems to be far-and-away the leading determination of one's religious convictions, if they have them.

I understand. I was raised in a very, very religious household. I now choose...jiff. heh heh. Seriously, I now choose to question rather than believe. Much to my mothers dismay, but I have my reasons.:)

Nope. Don't believe in organized religion. I was raised with both the Jewish and the Cathoic faith, I've studied several other religions and they facinate me.

However I've basically come to the realization that the idea that an organization is needed to bring you to God or God to you isjust plain silly.

Plus the basic tennents of all religion is the same, so the seperation is more about elitism and power than faith.

Religion and faith are not one in the same.

Kinda the opposite for me.. I was raised Roman Catholic, and since then I can't believe in organized religion. I have faith and spirituality, but not in RELIGION. I have a set of beliefs that work in my life.. that give me hope, that inspire me, and they're a bit of a collection of pieces from all different religions, and yet they seem to work pretty well together.

I spent 18 years of my life listening to people put guilt trips on me because I was interested in my body, because I was interested in women, because I was interested in learning things OUTSIDE the Catholic tradition. I just can't do that shit anymore.

So I opened my mind, and accepted what came to me, that sat right with my soul.

Basic tenents of all religions are not the same; Christianity is about a God who pursues relationship with us and values us for who and whose we are, all others are about people doing all we can to earn favor and position with a capricious god.

Walk with those who seek the truth...
But run like HELL, from those who say they've found it...

BTW, Happy Winter Solstice to all!!!

Wow.. that is both ignorant and insulting.

I thought it was about selling flowers and chanting.

Ahh the sounds of ignorant trolls in the evening. But hark! Is that a bible by your bed? Try reading it moron.

religion

I dont believe in any im an atheist. Everyone says god is good and great I've never seen it. He's never been there for me. Also all religions say theres is right so how do we know which is. I prefer to just believe when you die heaven and hell are whatever you make them no one knows for sure so why should i choose?

I agree... Ignorance and arrogance are often two interchangeable words....

(Hi West Mass Man... Not to get off track but... did you ever read my fantasy with you as a main participant?)

Yes Image, but a bit late in the game -- I was away for a while. You seem to have done quite well without me though -- I found it very erotic. Would enjoy talking to you about it sometime.

Alas, it is a Bible. On my bedstand, in my car, on my desk and its been read.

Reading Comprehension

Unfortunately, not understood.....

Actually, it is your arrogant characterization of other religions that makes me wonder about your interpretive skills.

Of course you are referring to the King James version, misogynist that he was.... Did you also know that Jesus never, NEVER spoke of a hell? ... Oh, and what of Lilith? Did they ever teach you of Lilith? There are many paths... I hope yours is working for you, that's all that matters... :)

I believe in many oraginized religions. They have places of worship all over. I've seen them.

Fortunately I was raised as a Unitarian, which means I don't have to choose any one, but rather have the religious Chinese menu option.

Organized Religion . .No . . God . . YES

I do not believe ANYONE or any BOOK can tell me how to have a relationship with God . .that's between he and I.

Buddhists don't believe in god. They don't work to earn favour with one then, do they? Nope, they work to achieve Nirvana, the state of perfect peace and happiness.

Before you go and rubber-stamp all other religions, hows bout you open your eyes and mind a little titch and stop being an ignorant zealot.

Everyone looks at things from a different point of view... Each of us has our own experiances and roads that lead us to where we are and how we feel today.... I beileve that in the end it will not matter if you were Cristian, Baptist, Wiccan or What ever.... It will matter how you lived this life on earth. How you treated others and yourself. What example you left for the generations to follow.

Just my 2 cents

Jade :p
