If I want an editor, where do I look for one?

I'm writing a new story and I'm considering the idea of having an editor look at it first (room for improvement, etc). Where do I get one of those wonderful beings who will forever have my gratitude? (start sucking up now )

Hi,

Your best bet would be to look for people whos work you admire - and then email and ask them if they are free and willing to look at your story and edit it. Most of them would be happy to.

I would, but the story is one of the categories she doesn't want to edit. It's a romance/ghost story. But thanks for the good suggestions...I have a good idea of who I may ask.

I grinned when I read through this thread. I did offer to "edit" or give feedback because I do truly believe it helps me with my own writing.

deliciously_naughty - I do hope you find someone to help you with your story. I did put up some areas that I didn't want to edit because they are not in my reading and writing genres, and did not think I could be much help to people writing in those areas.
