Yum.

Especially as this thread is most frustrating.

Many people honestly trying to help, only to have it shoved back in our faces by someone who either wants to yank our respective chains or who is too lazy to do the work required to learn how to write with skill.

Hmph.

But - lime is so tart and sticky as it trickles over body parts. Tasty stuff, baby.

Let's get started.

At this point, I'd tell you to just start writing, edit it as best you can and submit it. If it sucks ass it will bomb and then you'll know. That's really the only way to get feedback without taking the time to help others out as well.

What lucky said. Write something and let the readers decide. If you are fortunate enough and talented enough, you will likely attract a reader or two who will take the time to provide you with valuable, constructive feedback. If you aren't, then you can always try reading the How-to's or pursuing other avenues of improvement after the fact.

'Nuff said, eh?

Luck,

The VB EZ Story Writing Plan

(1) Go to the Story Ideas forum and kick some ideas around until you find one that floats your boat.

(2) Try to write it.

(3a) Go to the Story Discussion Circle, and put your story in the cue, meanwhile, reading the other stories in the cue, reading the criticism of the other stories (which you have read). Submit what criticism you have of the stories in the cue, as politely and gently as possible. (These are the people who will be criticising your story.)

(3b) As you read the criticism of other stories -- if you agree with their point -- check to make sure that your story does not contain similar errors.

(3c) When your story comes up for criticism, read each criticism carefully, to see it the other writer's insight can help you make your story better. With luck, you will learn to avoid these pitfalls the first time, in your future stories.

(4) More important than learning how to write, learn how to edit. That means, after finishing the first draft, go back to correct for spelling errors, grammatical errors, typos, errors in logic, and for a different, better way to phrase what you have written.

(5) Submit your story, and wait for the reactions of your readers.

(6) Repeat points (1) to (5) over and over and over until you feel you can omit steps (1) and (3).

Great ideas, but she said - the thing is, i dont want to read a bunch of crap, when i want to write.

Your way has too much reading.

What she (and I use that term lightly) was really trying to say, is, "I don't want to have to actually LEARN anything, I just want it to do it."

Maybe if you got a better computer, like an Altair.

Oh well!

I TRIED to do a good dead for the day.

Not my fault that it didn't work.

I'm no boy scout.

i have 0 experience. ne advice?

Everyone here had 0 experience when they wrote their first work. Don't let it bother you, you aren't where everyone else, including your favorite writer was at one point in their career.

My advice would be to write your first one on something close to you. An experience or fantasy you have run through your head countless times. Something that you know and are comfortable with but wish to share.

Finding a mentor, someone who will proof your works and offer you a sounding board for ideas is a big plus when you are first starting out. It isn't mandantory, but is good advice if you have someone who writes here you trust and who has time to make themselves avialable to you.

the best advice of course is just do it. You will get all the help, pointers, etc. you want if you have something done to show people who wish to be helpful, rather than just ideas you would like to write.

Hello and welcome :)

Just as Joe said, write something and post it up either here or in story feedback and see what kind of feedback you get :)

Writing is essentially a very private thing..so do it for yourself first anf foremost if thats what you want to do :)

El's right every one here can be really helpful if you give them a chance. Just don't let yourself get deffencive about what you wrote and what they respond. Take everything with a grain of salt. If it's helpful, use it. If not just move on. The best advice I can give is just to write what you feel, then work on it from there. Some times you get a great piece, and sometimes you get crap that's not even worthy of the trash file. Good luck ;)

(Now I'm really late for work!)

Well then, show me your tits. :)

Okay-okay. Here's the deal with writing.

If you want to write, don't worry about reading all these manuals and things - just do it. That is - providing you have something you want to write about which I'm sure you prolly do.

Get it all down on computer, run spell check, and then edit to the best of your abilities. Then ask for someone to read it for you and tell you the errors they see. Make a note of those errors, because no editor wants to keep correcting the same errors over and over again.

Post your story. That's about all there is to it. Sure, some jackass will leave a comment like, "Doesn't know how to spell." or some such shit. But as long as the story is good, you should get a lot more positive feedback, I mean, "Oh God I came reading your story. In chapter 2 how about having her get fucked in the ass. Will you send me some pics?"

Personally I think you can probably use the 10,000 monkeys technique with your own posts and come up with the complete works of Shakespeare.
