I Wonder

Well, because on the subject of writing advice, JBJ is a charlatan. You, of course, can be dumb enough to think he is bringing up stuff that will help you with your writing on Literotica and elsewhere, but if no one fingers him as the charlatan he is than you won't have any balance in the chance of not being dumb enough to follow him down that garden path (which, yes, is your privilege to do).

There is nothing in his made-up OP thread definition (which is the opposite of a definition of the literary use of "phenomenal," by the way--he's taking a scientific view (just a description) rather than the literary definition, which is crucial to erotica (seen through the senses only), or his examples that are going to help you write good erotica).

Oh, you don't have to worry about little ol' me. I may look shiny and new, but I've been around the block a few times.

And no offense to any of y'all, but I don't come to Lit looking for advice on how to be a better writer. Inspiration? Yes. Outside the box thinking? Yes. Exposure to ideas I may not otherwise learn? Yes. And Lit offers so much more. But I don't think anyone needs to protect the "children" from JBJ. I think we've all got plenty of grains of salt in our pockets, even after we throw a pinch over our collective shoulders.

That being said. I like Raymond Carver. Better than I like James Joyce. Those old hard boiled detective novels just ooze cool.

Ahh, Pilot, as welcoming as ever. And for reasons we both know I very much enjoy seeing you use the word Charlatan.;)

As to the second part I put in bold, who elected you the Lit Police? People who come here are adults(supposedly anyway) and can make up their own minds about the people here, they don't need your jaded opinions.

But since you want to keep delivering them:

Do check out my sig.:D

I'mma pop some more popcorn. Who wants some? :)

Hmmm approaches suspiciously and tries to look into the bucket. Looks up and asks, "There's not a hole in the bottom of this bucket is there? Am I going to reach in and grab a hot buttered tentacle?"

Dammit, LC it was just that one time! :(

sheablue, my advice to you is to pay attention and don't drink any cool-aid...though I might be too late on the advice.

Jomar, I appreciate the advice, though I'm not sure why you think it's needed. I certainly do pay attention, and though no one has offered me any cool-aid, I don't drink the stuff. Like I said, I've been around the block a few times ... it's all good.

Maybe not needed, but a few of your comments indicate that you have been seduced and have sipped the cool-aid. Good luck, though. I'm here for advice if you want.

Seduced?!?! I wish!!! ;)

Seduced?!?! I wish!!! ;)

Careful what you wish for in the land of shadows that is the AH.

There is a Dark Side, and a not-so-Dark side and then the Prancing Pony Side but what ever you do...
Ahgg, Ahgg.......

Muah ha ha ha!

AH is the only place on Earth where threads about writing are 'fightin words' and the seeds of endless drama. If youre impressed by something, and share the info here, some come unglued at the heresy. Why there's so much angst about Carver or Joyce,or anything thats easily researched for its merits and value, puzzles the mind. These folks talk like the presenter has bottled moonshine and selling it as PERUNA elixir or LYDIA PINKHAM HEALTH TONIC.

I succumbed to the dark side long ago ... but, um, you lost me at prancing ponies! Well, actually, no you didn't, I was perusing the petplay thread earlier. Ha!

I enjoy Damon Runyon. He mixes phenomenon, exposition and dialogue-- in monologue form, essentially he writes in a speaking voice.

You remind me of my mother. She will say the most outrageous things, and she will honestly expect people to say "yes dear, you are so wise and smart!"

If you have a different opinion, or you ask her to clarify, or if you tell her that she's not talking sense-- OMG big meltdown!

She doesn't have many friends anymore. She's had to let them go. They have all turned on her.

The local library has nuthin by Damon Runyon but I did find a cache of his stories online. So thanks for the heads-up.

"People are people so why should it be, you and I should get along so awfully..."

Oh god, I just dated myself with that one, didn't I.

Depends. You'd be surprised to know how many of us are in that same age group . . . and how many are older. ;)

Good stuff, IMO-- I love his vocabulary, and that odd 'near-future active' tense he was such a master of.

I am trying many times to write explicit porn in his style, and it's pretty much impossible. The ellipticality of the language will not describe the particular activity in any way that can arrive at a satisfactory conclusion.

Well, sure, that doesn't surprise me at all, but a girl likes to maintain a certain element of mystery ... yes? :)

You have to forgive my levity. It was the cake that made me do it.
Well that and the need to get away from my Copulating Creator story.

Welcome to the AH though. It can be a fascinating place, Ratz my spell check isn't working.

Poop.

People hate what they fear, and mostly they fear change.

OK The pheromonal story is done. 800 words. 450 less than my usual. It needs a little tweaking.

Whats the alternative? I suffer every time something young dies. Death isnt the cure for aging.
