who are also uneasy about their country's actions under Bush...

I can't believe that a country as sophisticated as the US is entirely populated by the type of uneducated, uninformed, half-wits we see too often on Lit...

No matter what you say we won't come crying back asking to be colonies.

it kills me to say this but... i really am uneasy about the way things are shaking out. fairly sure that their is only one way this shit is gonna go down and i think it might get really messy before its over.

Quite right. Many of the half wits are foreign products.

All ribbing of ppman aside, I am uncomfortable as well.

I am also convinced that it will have to be done sooner or later and that sooner will be much cheaper in money and lives.

Everybody's uneasy. It's called September 11.

Most Americans, however, are quite confident in Bush. Just because you're not doesn't mean diddly shit.

Duh. The entire concept of "war" and all it entails would make everyone uneasy. Hell, even the StudMuffin is uneasy about the situation and he's rip snortin' rarin' to go back over there.

Uneasy about war does not mean that we disagree that the threat of invasion and the potential calling of the bet that Saddam might do is necessary.

Yeah over here we're all uneasy as well...

There is to be a big difference though.

Bush at the moment seems to be riding high on a wave of popular support. Our media show the protests in the streets and the comments by some disaffected politicians, but all in all Bush seems to have a clear run through.

Over here Blair is in deep shit. The number of backbenchers of his own party is growing, rumours abound about this crisis being the end of his political career if it all goes wrong (and that doesn't necessarily mean losing the war but following too closely in the footsteps of America) and although there are now a number of Members of the European Union supporting him, and therefore Bush's line, their support is largely minimal or just plain lip service.

Blair has begun to look frayed and unsure of himself when being closely questioned. His words are the same but his body language tells a different story.

His main target is the Presidency of the European Union. This current mess is not going to help him to achieve that unless he plays an extremely fine balancing act between America and Europe...

A blancing act which becomes more difficult the more the US struggles to find the right justification to invade Iraq.

What U.S. Litsters may not know is that pp speaks for a majority of Europeans — last I heard roughly 70 percent of them opposed taking action against Saddam.
The U.S. is taking the heat, and, indeed, assuming the risk. People who have thought this through don't really believe Saddam's weapons are for his viewing pleasure only — he will use them. With our open borders, and our stance, there's a good chance he will use them here if he's given the opportunity.
What is really going on here isn't much different from what was going on in the Cold War, except there is no public united front. The U.S. provided the bulk of the money, and a shitload of troops and equipment, when the threat of a Soviet invasion was quite real.
Now that the Soviet threat has vanished, our European "brothers" (particularly the "intellectuals") don't feel they need us any more, and they can be more up front about how they feel about the U.S. You can call it jealousy.
There is a bit of irony that the U.S. and Bush get relatively strong support from those countries that are no longer a part of the USSR.

Ironic, my ass. The Polish and Czechs and Slavs have lived for decades under the type of regime that Saddam emulates. They know the score.

Sadly, the French and Germans seem to have forgotten.

Poll

I took a poll a few years ago. I asked 1,000 people what's wrong with America: Ignorance or apathy?

The answers came back: I don't know and I don't care.
Hmmm imagine that.

PP I am not uneducated, uniformed, half-witted but I might not see things as clearly as I should. I do attempt to read all sides of the situation. As far as I am concerned, and this is my opinion, I support him because I have not seen evidence in my eyes not to. If you think about it the man has aged over this all. It is not an easy decision. I cannot believe that several of thousand of our service people would be sent over unless there was a reason. One of them is close to my heart and has been there since the beginning.

In retrospect another reason why the people from Iraq and middle east did no march for peace is that they want war. Some do not like our life style and the other extreme they want to get rid of their governement.

Peace,
Tulip

How about this?

If you aren't a serving member in the Armed Forces, you've got nothing to piss and moan about, except the current price of gas!
It's amazing the amount of ignorant people that think they have any sacrifice in this matter. The only danger you'll face is sitting in front of the television for long periods watching the coverage!

You may die of embarassment after posting such outlandish predictions!

Except how ignorant some people get.

Uneasy? I think that fuck-wit Bush is on the verge of plunging the world into war ... not to mention that his foreign policy has made America a prime target for terrorism.

I'm uneasy but not about my country action. Thank God we have a President that is going to protect our nation and our way of life. Tuff shit if you don't like it.

Ninety-nine bottles of beer on the wall, ninety-nine bottles of beer,

Take one down, pass it around, ninety-nine bottles of beer on the wall.

As a MERCHANT Marine who is heading that way in a few days to support our uniformed men and women, I have to take exception with the remark about only uniformed persons having anything to bitch about. Even during THE Gulf War there were more civilian manned ships in theater than military delivering gas, guns and groceries to the troops. Granted we're not doing the shooting but we do make really nice targets. I'm not criticizing LC, just offering a friendly reminder.
