except in my bedroom. hahaha
(that's supposed to be funny...do I hear you laughing with me?)

No seriously, I do see it everywhere. And when I return from dinner tonight, I will tell you all about it.

If you see it everywhere too, feel free to tell me about it while I'm gone.

I am in that Grrrrrrrrrr kinda grinding your teeth wanting to session type of mode lately. I see and feel it around me constantly when I am in this state of mind.

It's funny - the more I learn about it, the more I see it. I'm just wondering if it was always there and I just didn't know, or if I'm reading into perfectly normal (read - non BDSM) situations.

Okay, I see it in John Wayne movies all the time. But before you all flame me for watching those movies, it's all part of the insomniac-maniac that I am. You know, at 3 am you watch whatever is making noise.

So, my case in point is the movie Donovan's Reef. He spanks that woman (I can't remember her name, but she is reeeeeeeeally homely) no less than a dozen times.

And then there's The Quiet Man... my God. He drags Maureen O'Sullivan through town and then whips her hindend with a tree switch in front of all the Irish townfolk before he throws her head first back to her brother, who never paid the dowery.

John Wayne aka Master Dom of All.

(Disclaimer: Personally, I have never been a John Wayne fan.)

someone in the house had Rollerball on ... and everytime i walked past the tv I saw posture collars, chains, bdsm masks, bit gags, bdsm collars, D/O rings everywhere...

I was just commenting on this to some other person today, small world huh? lol.

All you need to do is watch John Wayne movies, like Bandelaro!

The other night it was on and he or Dean Martin threw Raquel Welch over their shoulder and trotted off with her.

There is a really old Clark Gable - Claudette Colbert movie... oh, the name escapes me... he pulls her over his knee on the side of the road and spanks her.

You do know that D/s was an accepted way of life before the 60s. Women were submissive and actually were allowed to be w/out question or judgement

Uhh...unless they were working in a munitions plant or something.

I forget what percentage of women actually *did* work through the 50's but it's high. Not working has always been a luxury, whether it's an "ideal" or not.

working to support your country makes you unsubmissive?

I'm the same. I do however think its all around and I'm just only noticing it now. Often in a denied/ socially subdued form unfortunately, for both Dom/mes and subs. How much enjoyment they could really be having and how much simpler it would be for everyone involved.

the part in "gone with the wind' where rhett grabs scarlet and carries her up the stairs reminds me of bdsm.

i'm also reading the book 'atlas shrugged' and there is a lot of it in that. the main woman is having a relationship with a man who is married to a mouse of a woman. The main woman is in charge and owns one of the biggest companies in the book, she comes home from a big huge event where she is the focus and as she walks in the door, he asks her if she enjoyed the attention, enjoyed all those ppl watching her...and so on...then forces her on her knees...reminding her of her place. i get chills thinking of it...it is full of bdsm.....

my Sir likes the idea of me being in the position i'm in also and then coming home and being his...

Hey lets not trash the Duke :) I have always been a big John Wayne fan.... Me = submissive.... hummmm begining to make sense why I am such a fan ;) He also spanks his co-star in McLintock and his future son-in-law spanks his daughter with his blessings.... He actually makes a statement, "Must be the first engagement that started with a spanking" But I must agree ADR I tend to see it everywhere as well. Last week walking through the dollar store with my S/o I picked up a bag of clothes pins, and we both just started laughing....

I'm a great fan of saying 'there is no such thing as "vanilla"' (well, other than the spice itself.) One reason is that dominance and submission are inherent in the human species, and in most other species. We who practice D/s simply focus on it.

So... while I don't see BDSM everywhere (BDSM for me evokes scenes of leather and whips and chains and feather dusters), D/s is a part of every relationship you have.

And I suspect that includes inanimate objects too!

laughs softly....not yet...but i'll suggest it to my Sir....
if you dont mind, give me examples??
:D

Well personally I don't think those things in the movies you brought up were BDSM.

BDSM has to have consent on both sides for me to call it BDSM. Anything short of that is then abuse.

You all have heard about the entire "rule of thumb" thing right?

Well, if memory serves, in each movie, the woman stayed with Duke.
They must have liked it, or they could have left him. Maybe they acted the way they did, because they were spanked in public. That's the way some women are when you try to kiss them in public, too.

They act like they don't like it, or think you are just oversexed. I bet if some women here lived in the time of Duke Wayne, and he spanked them, they might want to go home with him.

On a side note...do you think John was trying to wipe out any wimpy notions his real name might have brouht him before Hollywood?

At a Liz Claiborne accessory display there were Liz Claiborne pet collars. Do you suppose they were just for dogs? :D

It's a lot like learning a new word, isn't it? Once you learn it... you hear and see it everywhere.

And I also think that bdsm is more normal than most want to acknowledge and that is why you *think* you are reading it into "perfectly normal" situations. You aren't really, because it really is there. ;-)
