I can tell y'all the reason for the change... The older version of vBulletin software that Lit was running is no longer supported. They HAD to upgrade to the newer version to stop board crashes and such.

How do I know this? It happened to Master's site several months ago (we use the same forum software) and I even pm'd MissT about at the time to have her let Laurel and Manu know about the problems with the older version.

So, I hate to be the one to say this but the old Lit is not coming back... at least not the exact way it was. With LOTS of work and modification I'm sure it can look very close to the old Lit but with the newer functions.

There was another forum I LEFT, that used this same forum software...they used the version Lit had, then changed to this version. Because they went to this version, I left. Now, Lit has this fucked up version, too.

How do you edit your posts? you couldn't at the other forum, and that was one reason I left. People do make mistakes, you know. And, you change your minds, from time to time, too. Are the forum Gestapo going to make us live with a post we don't like?

What's happened to "FREEDOM OF SPEECH"? I guess that doesn't include the freedom change your mind, in that speech?

No, I'm not finished ranting. I might need my violet wand to make my point. Are the electrical outlets in this new forum the same? Or have they all changed, too? Once I find a plug in, you're the first one I look for to test it out, shy slave.

Needless to say, I'm not very happy. I used to come to this place to relax and have fun. Now, if I want that, I have to make major changes on my computer, and I'm not willing to do that.

Yes, Doug, I see the edit option. I was talking about my past experience with this version of the forum, on another site. They did not have the edit option. And, if you were around when this site had the old version, each post had the edit button. This version only shows it on your posts. So I obviously thought Lit was doing the same thing as that other site. Now that I have a little better skin and a browser compatible with this new version, I can see things a little better. But, that doesn't mean I have to like it.

You also mention it takes time to make the new version like the old version. I disagree. I'm not blaming Lit for this, but I am blaming the vB software. They have the power (as with all other software creators) to make their software with the same skin as a previous version. Or at least one that is very similar. Any security features are in the background and just the look of software shouldn't have to change, if the end user doesn't want it.

I understand there are some options the old version didn't have, but I'm willing to lose those options to go back to the way I've seen this site for nearly four years. Sure, I'll get use to the change, but what I'm complaining about is the change shouldn't be mandatory. Just because something is new doesn't mean it has to change. We aren't buying a car, here. We expect a little change when we buy a new car.

And, this isn't just the vB people, either. It seems all software has to make their newer versions look different. Some have very little difference than the version they are replacing, but the look is different and the way you do the same things is completely different. Why? I don't know. If it's because people are paying for it, and they expect change, fine. But, there should also be an option for those who don't want change, and are forced to go to the new software just for security reasons.

Take Photoshop, for instance, or Pagemaker. You get proficient at a certain version and what happens? They come out with a new version. To stay up with the competition, you have to get the new version. And sure, you're excited about the new features, but why make the old tried and true features from the older version be accessed in a completely different way?

If you ask me, it's stupid. And, Adobe is far from the only company to do this. Microsoft does it, too (don't get me started on Microsoft). There isn't a software out there (at least those that I've seen) that doesn't do this same thing.

So, why should the vB people be any different? Why not? Lit had to change to be current with security features. I understand that. What I'm saying is, give me a skin where everything is where it was, and I'll be happy. Put the smilies where they were, make them look like they did and give me the colors like they were.

Manu shouldn't have to take the time to do it, himself. It should have been an option from the beginning.

Are you a switch at all? I do enjoy directing a switch to torment a sub, while I watch. What do you think?

I'm waiting for someone to come up with a skin that looks like the old one. I'm a control freak and new things force me out of my element. It makes me want to BEAT SOMEONE!

Not a switch but will soon be in a possition where I can actually explore the dominant side of myself and am more then happy to follow directions in a learning environment.

I'd rather learn something like the use of a violet wand from an experianced person then give it a go on my own and hurt someone who trusts me not to harm her in a negative way.

The lit logo? I'm sure there is an option provided to insert their logo at the top of the page. Just like the other site I mentioned did. Most template softwares allow the buyer to do a little customizing, but don't think Manu is creating these skins on his own, from scratch. The look of this new version here, is very close to the other site I saw it on. The only difference is they had their logo at the top.

And, the smilies? they are the exact same ugly smilies as with the other site I was on. They are default smilies from the software. Manu didn't create or customise them in any way, except to maybe select more. The other site didn't have as many.

There are templates and color schemes that Manu can use and he can move things around a little, here and there. But, there are things he won't be able to do, and that is not his fault. The software creator is.

It takes time. I know because Master spent hours/days on his site making it look like it did before He got hacked by some moron with no guts or glory. Master also had to upgrade to this newer version, but yes His site now looks almost exactly like it did before.

And the smilies are mostly default ones, but there are 100's maybe 1000's of packages out there of smilies... Where do you think AA and Catalina get the ones that they post? However to add in the new smilies takes coding time.

I would venture a guess (based on going over to the announcements forum) that Manu has been working on getting the basics working first and will later go on to work on the cosmetic aspects. Cosmetics won't matter if the board doesn't function.
