 :rose:

Yep, I am still off them. :D

I haven't been hiding today, just not online. I've been trying to ween myself off Lit a bit, and get down to doing some work.

I know!

It shocked me, too!

quitting smoking...

HI Lou,

Congrats on giving up smoking... I have read this thread with interest because I know the is rapidly appproaching that I too must join the ranks of the "used to puff' ones.

I thought maybe if I wrote a list of reasons here it might help encourage me to get to that point where I feel I can actually do this. So here is my list of reasons to give up. And a list of methods I have studied to help stave off the crave.

Reasons to give up smoking.

To improve my health
Because my son asked me too
Because my daughter asked me too
smoking is unattractive
I hate smokers cough
my ceilings get grotty from the smoke
smoking is isolating socially
it makes my breath smell
it makes my clothes smell
it makes my house smell
it is too expensive
I could do a lot of fun things with the money I save.

Methods which help you give up smoking and get past the cravings

drink lots of water to flush the chemicals from the body
sucking on oranges kills the crave
exercise more often the endorphines from exercise help
chewing on gum helps
taking up a craft to keep my hands busy helps.
snacking on fresh fruit and vegetables are good substitues
seeking support from others so you dont feel alone
leading up to giving up make a date to stop.
Before that date or on the morning of that date have a stop smoking ceremony which includes removing all the smoking related things from your house and reading your list of reasons why you are giving up and the list of things which will help you succeed.
remind yourself of the reasons you are giving up regularly.
Treat yourself to a luxury you couldn't afford when smoking each week.
journal your experiences leading up to giving up and thereafter.
talk to others about the benefits of giving up.
make a conscious effort to cut down before the stop smoking day

EWG

Lou,

Glad to hear you're still clean, fresh, nicotine free!

Wouldn't it be nice if your effort started someone else?
Like EWG for instance? :D

EWG

:) Hi, EWG. Let us know when the day starts and we will be as supportive of you as we have been of Lou.

That's not a royal or editorial "we", by the way. I think it is safe to say that everybody is in agreement with me.:rose:

Go for it, EWG, we'll all support you all the way. :D

You've compiled some great lists there, I found my lists helped me, a LOT!

All the best, whatever you decide to do.

Keep us posted.

Hey sweet thing,

You still clean??

I keep trying but my lil' kosher kock just can't fit more than one ring. I don't like ring toss. :(

Awww! Just tie a brick on the end of it, or keep tugging like crazy. It might end up looking like a spear, but at least you'll get all the rings on. ;)

Once there was a thread about smoking
The desire to puff was quite evoking
But a lady said no
She'd rather blow
And get a little poking
