I need a comparison...

Heheh yeah I was planning to. Except its the moon (she's "Moontouched".)

Hmm . . .

"Lyelleth was as iridescent as the full moon, glowing white-hot, yet her skin was icy to the touch."

Might help if you let us in a little on who (or what) Lyelleth is.

Basically the glow is caused by a reaction in her body, she absorbs moonlight and turns it into a type of magical power, but she doesn't know how to use it so her body is simply storing it - it's slowly killing her.

And I believe I have a modelviewer shot of her, she's a Night Elf (World of Warcraft race)

Attached a mockup for her - the dress is green (she's been "sold" as a sex slave) and her hair is down her butt :)

Okay, this may be reaching a bit, but;

"Leyelleth lay curled upon the floor, the eldritch glow of her body sending shadows to dance upon the walls. Though her skin seemed as hot as a blade fulled from the forge, her skin remained icy to the touch."

THAT I like. Wow.

You know, if you told me you needed a phrase in "Gamerese," I could have posted that an hour ago. :p

But I didn't know that now did I? :)

I love my characters: They just want to fuck, I'm trying to explain to them that we need to get the plot out of the way first...

Yep, blame it on the horny elves. I know how that's like. ;)

I have horny Night Elf, Troll, Human, Blood Elf and two Orcs to deal with. Three peices on the go = brain implosion...

I need a reasearch break and my study buddy is at home :(

Q: How does a troll have sex?

A: Any fuckin' way it wants to!

I attribute that to Phil and Dixie. ;)

Maybe "bright as a lighthouse on a foggy night. Bright and shiny as a rookie cop's badge.

Hehehe, yeah, the tusks were... fun.

For giggles, here's scale copies of the Troll and the Blood Elf.

Random excerpt of the evening:

“The only way to drain this much power from her is to return it to its source, to ground her out. Quite simply, we’re going to have to throw her in the Moonwell.”

Um . . . I know what you mean to say, but "ground her out" makes me think of her as a cigarette, like they want to snuff her. Just saying . . . .

Bah, I was thinking more grounding as in live wires.

Ok, lets try it without the "Out".

“The only way to drain this much power from her is to return it to its source, to ground her. Quite simply, we’re going to have to throw her in the Moonwell.”

Is the story only fantasy-oriented? Or is it something like Warhammer 40k in feel? Mind you, I've never played Worlds of Warcraft, so if your story is absed on that, I'd be at a loss.

Its fantasy orientated, the person who is speaking is rather... odd, and old. Its loosely based on Warcraft (some of the places, and the basis for the races) but the individual characters and Lye's gift are all my own stuff :)

In that case, some of the wording seems a little too modern. But that's just my opinion. 'Draining' and 'grounding' make me think of modern applications to energy.

"We have but one recourse: to sap the power from her, mute it. Quite simply, we shall have to throw her to the Moonwell."

It's just a suggestion . . . ;)

I blame the Gnomes and the Goblins engineering speak... but yeah, that does sound better, thanks Slyc!

Sightless milky white eyes connected with Orannis’ grey. “Just because I am blind does not mean I do not see, Shaman. My pupil had no need to tell me who she was – I have ears, I know that Dashkern’s daughter was handed over to the Horde. There are those here who would not have shed a tear over her death. I am not one of them. Now, to save her from this… madness requires something of a sacrifice, both from you, and her.”

“What kind of sacrifice?” Ori replied quietly, gaze returning to his charge.

“At the very least, some privacy, at the most… possibly your life,” Roshann replied simply, his bowed form holding a purple-skinned hand over Lyelleth’s forehead. “We have but one recourse: to sap the power from her, mute it. Quite simply, we shall have to throw her to the Moonwell.”

The Shaman made a choked, spluttering noise, “We’re going to *what*?”

“Did I say ‘we’? I meant you,” The male Druid shot back, “That much power draining from her would kill a Night Elf, even an unTouched one, and the side effects… Well. You are the only choice, Shaman.” He walked away from the Rogue, pausing in the doorway, “In about fifteen minutes, every resident of Moonglade will be in the main cabin for the Silithus briefing. You will have half an hour to leave the centre and go to the south-eastern Moonwell. Keep her head above the water Shaman, the last thing we need is to sap this power out only for her to drown. Call Nahdeer when she awakes, I am having no more of this non-attendance nonsense!”

I like that snippet. Definitely sounds like something I'd want to read. ;)

I've always been an old-line gamer. Until just a couple years ago, I enjoyed weekly games using the d20 system in various milieus. I have tons of fantasy fics that I've eiether not finished or haven't polished.

If you're interested, you can check my list of stories. Look for Waxley the Bold. Very gamer-ish fantasy, based entirely on d20 style D&D. ;)

Ooh, I will do once I have this part done (I'm being threatened with bodily harm if I don't post it soon *giggles*), but the start of it is already posted *points at link marked Lyelleth and Orannis in her sig*

I have sigs turned off, but thanks for pointing it out. I'll give it a look. ;)

Anything else you need? :p

JL, I think you could use more "medieval" or "fantasy" comparisons for her glow by comparing the progression of the glow to a day's progression of a Dwarven Forge's heat and light -- Dull banked glow in the morning, stoked and fueled to a bright heat as they prepare for the work day, pumped up to a blinding inferno by the bellows, etc.

The "White Heat" of iron being worked in a forge was the brightest artificial light known to mankind for centuries -- until the invention of gas mantle lighting (in the 18th century in Europe, IIRC.)
