I like Ships too

Most French ships weren't, unlike the English ones.

Precisely— that's what caught my eye.

As you undoubtedly know, that proved to be a decisive factor in Rodney's pursuit of de Grasse prior to the Battle of the Saintes.

from Wikipedia:

"...On 5 October 2011, due to navigation errors near the Astrolabe Reef, the Rena ran aground near Tauranga, New Zealand... Over the span of several months, she had been battered by consistent heavy winds and rough seas and on 8 January 2012 the Rena broke in two after a particularly harsh night of bad weather. By 10 January the stern section had slipped off of the reef bank and sunk almost completely.

The Rena was a 236-metre (774 ft) Panamax container ship with a container capacity of 3,351 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU) in seven holds. Her breadth was 32.2 metres (106 ft), and fully laden she had a draught of 12 metres (39 ft). Her gross tonnage was 38,788, net tonnage 16,454 and deadweight tonnage 47,231 tonnes. The Rena was served by a crew of 20...

...By June 2014, the wreck has been salvaged of approximately 77% of the initial containers. Major pieces of the wreck have been removed, those include: the entire bow section being leveled one metre below the low tide mark, removal of the 350 tonne accommodation block (down to D deck) and a major piece of port side. All fuel and oils have been removed, except for about 1 tonne of clingage. There is an ongoing search for the last container of plastic beads. During the salvage operation, more than 850 tonnes of debris have been removed from the area..."

Hi. I noticed that a Jill F. and Alexx responded to the story.

Don't worry Jill F. and Alexx I'm sure your drugs and slaves got thru. I don't hear you crying out about the illegals breaking our laws crossing the border with the help of slavers and drug lords. Or criminals being released by our state and city governments to commit crimes again. Or making the same claims against Iran and China.

Tell you there is nothing lower than an American Communists Pot Head and Slaver.

The Lump of Watar.

She'll tack nae prisoners ,shes over the wall.
She'll haul ye back and steal yer soul .
She'll come fae nae where and bust yer ribs.
She'll try tae tack ye fae yer wife and kids .

She's a black frothy Siren in league with hell.
She comes a crashing asunder tolling yer bell.
She can be out of sight but ready to bite
The lump of watar in the black of night.

She has no pity and has no heart .
And has come to tear this boat apart.
Hold on for dear life as we take a batter.
The black frothy Siren the Lump of watar.

Its been a poor old night tae say the least.
As dawn comes upon us a light from the East.
The wind dies doon and the sea abates.
We've came throo it again ,Hells watery gates.

Its a hard old game but wants and needs.
See's us comin back we've moo's tae feed.
But some day and the fact of the matter.
Wer'e gan tae get hut wi that lump of watar

Look what they do with the Nobel Peace prize......

I never had anyone able to say why Obama won the "prize". Some clowns said it was for what he would do, in that case I should win it as well as everyone else for "things I would do" but never got around to doing them.

A Sea Story

Aye Mates, sit ye down, light ye pipes, and I’ll spin ye a yarn of wooden ships, iron men and fishes of the sea.

This event actually did occur to the USS WIDGEON MSC (Mine Sweeper Coastal) 208 in January of 1967 while on patrol off the coast of South Vietnam. The ship earned 6 Vietnam battle stars and a Meritorious Unit Commendation.

The following news story was post “Saigon February 4, 1967”:

‘The commanding officer of the USS WIDGEON, a coastal minesweeper off Vietnam, has a problem…he has to make out a collision report.

And rather than sending it to his boss, the Rear Admiral, Commander of Mine Forces Pacific Fleet in Long Beach, Calif., he’d better send it to one of those Believe It or Not editors.

The WIDEGON was on patrol when all a sudden, a heavy thump shook the vessel. The Commanding Officer wondering if it might have been caused by a mine brushing along the hull. He and his crew looked over the side and saw something long, gray and vibrating deep down along the strakes. Someone mentioned “torpedo” but it didn’t act like one. Then the calm was shattered by a seaman who dove onto the deck.

“Somebody just tried to stab me.” He shouted. “I was in my bunk when a sword rammed through the planks.”

Investigation proved that the sweeper had been rammed by a very large swordfish. The fish was dead, but the sword plugged the hole until its target made port.

The Admiral can rest assured that the WIDEGON is the only minesweeper of his command ever reported an attack by an enemy swordfish.’

Status: Wood Hull; 145’ length, 28’ beam, draft 12’
