I hit submit (six times, one for each part) on my first novel 😳

My brain just kicked in for a moment - these things can change during the day?! I thought they only changed overnight?

From what I've seen over the years, there's a midnight server runs that publishes new stories. They can go to New at random times, but they actually become visible to readers 24 hourly.

I think she (@SamanthaBehgs) was thinking that approvals got marked only at midnight as well. I think I had more stories published here than Samantha does now before I realized how the indicator changed in Pending to show it is approved and when it will appear. Sigh, yet another thing that is explained in my how to that has been in pending for almost two months.

Not sure whether I’m more scared of it not getting published or getting published

UPDATE 1: It took me 11 months and 17 days to finish - with writing other stuff in between and some long lacunae. The six parts total 86,662 words.

UPDATE 2: I was remiss to not mention: @Djmac1031 who read every word as I wrote and contributed many ideas. @Mastered_again who read all of the Parts once each was done. And @onehitwanda and @PennyThompson both of whom read sections. A number of other people saw snippets, but this margin is too narrow to thank them all.

I'd have missed it even though I was half looking/waiting as I don't read 'novels' much.

I admitted to Emily in DM that, when finished, I was too emotionally exhausted to write a coherent comment in situ. Very well-crafted, very readable. I found myself reading faster wanting to take in more with each scene.

So I have a date tonight with a computer screen, a touch after midnight...

TBH I’m expecting low views and a middling rating. I didn’t write it to get major plaudits, I wrote it for me - goal accomplished!

I don't think low views will be a problem once it is read. (You will also see readers go back and re-read earlier parts.)
Certainly not a middling rating. It may take a while to be seen but your efforts will be rewarded.

After a rather nervous wait (favoritism, pah!), Parts IV - VI are now also scheduled for publishing on Nov 4th - 6th.

Part VI is the final part. This isn’t a series that is going to run and run. It’s a completed novel that I’ve split into six logical parts.

Late as usual to the thread, but not to The Story Of Nix, of course. Im so glad to see the reception and positive feedback on the first two parts both here and in the story comments.

Ive proofread the whole thing (currently revisiting the last few parts) and my only worry was it wouldn't find an audience. Sci Fi / Fantasy isn't exactly the most popular category here and despite the fact that Nix is a "sexbot," the story isn't simply page after page of gratuitous sex.

Emily so does love to over credit me sometimes. The ideas were all hers. Maybe I helped her choose one path over another with my feedback, or helped guide the direction once chosen. But all story credit goes to her. Im just the sounding board / editor.

Congrats on the reception so far, Em, you deserve it.
