I have a question

How can a story that hasn't posted, yet, doesn't appear on the main story board and doesn't appear on my SusanJillParker page already have votes on it.

Now, I'm not talking about hits. I'm talking about votes with a score. I wouldn't mind if I were giving 5 votes, but I was given low, very low votes.

Now, either Laurel or Manu prematurely voted for my story, before it posted or a moderator or moderators voted for my story before it posted.

Maybe Scouries was able to hack the system and posted what he thought of my story.

I'm confused. Does anyone have an explanation how this can happen? This is disconcerting, especially when thinking that this could also happen to a legitimate Literotica writing contest, you know.

As this has never happened to me before, this is weird. Huh?

Is it there now? Stories hit different reading systems at different times. I have found they hit different computer sets at different times. My new stories often are accessible on my desktop before they are on my laptop, and the two machines are only two feet apart. So, go figure. If it doesn't all smooth out in a couple of hours, there may be a problem. If it does come into synch within hours, it's just the magic of the Internet.

Nope.

The story has a posting date of 7/14 with word pending across from it. I PM'd Laurel. She hasn't answered me, yet.

I don't know how anyone can vote on a story that doesn't appear anywhere.

Thanks for your reply.

By the way, you're the one to ask.

A publisher offered me a 50/50 split. My last publisher offered 67/33, with me getting 33% and I thought that was more than fair being that the going rate for an e-Book is 25%.

I'm still wary.

I work on a 50/50 split of the profit (not the retail price). With all of the formats it has to be put in and all of the distributors that need to be continuously checked, I figure the publisher puts as much time into posting and maintaining it as I do in writing it.

Just wondering, did you sign a contract? If I may ask, what rights did you give up, just first time rights to print and digital?

Thanks

Actually, James, the 'puter didn't award my story points for any reference to homos worshipped or otherwise. A new high in the annals of Literotica, I received some bashing votes, before my story was even approved or posted.

Amazing. As the most bashed writer on Literotica, receiving bashing votes prematurely and beforehand is a new low. What's next?

It just makes me wonder, who the wizard is behind the curtain and what they are up to, especially when it comes to (cough, hack, wheeze) writing contests at Literotica.

It makes me wonder, James, how many plants there are among us. Come closer, James, do that no one will hear me.

"Who are these plants? Do you know? How can we, as innocent writers of erotica, know if we are writing to friend or to foe? Maybe, with all that you write on the site, James, you are a plant. Being that you have the same first name, maybe (gulp) you are Scouries."

Wow! Wouldn't that be a kick in the ass. Maybe, I'm not even myself, but (gasp)....you!

No! God help me! I'm stuck in this little box and can't get out. Someone save me.

If I'm SCOURIES you must be PINHEAD LADY slithering around incognito. INCOGNITO is Spanish for 'with head up ass.'

Pardon, James, I didn't mean to insult you, if that's how you took it. I only used you to push back the cloak of deception that hides the real goings on around her. Without scorecards and with so many players, we don't know, we never know, who is who, friend or foe.

Being that there are lots of PINHEAD LADIES (a term used loosely), perhaps, you could narrow the identity down to one of the PINHEADed LADies, (lol) that you refer.

Perhaps, give me a hint, the name of the state would help (lol).

Pshaw! I'm never insulted as I know my worth and limits. Around here the legions of posters are really a few posters with legions of alts. Its how they manage their LIT lives.

PENNSYLVANIA.

Ah, I figured as much with how you penned her name (lol).

Being that I reside in Pennsylvania, a transplant from Massachusetts, Boston, actually, I knew the woman in question couldn't be me.

You know, James, now that I think about it, for a site that is, "supposedly" unmoderated, we have lots of secret moderators about. I think we all know who they are. Only, it troubles me, greatly, when several of these suspected moderators win a writing contest. Shouldn't they be disqualified from entering a contest?

It doesn't seem fair that someone who works and/or volunteers for Literotica should win a writing contest. Does that seem fair to you? I mean, really, many of the writers, who write here have college degrees and advanced degrees. We're not a bunch of idiots. We all know a fix, when we see one. Yet, when we look at the page of a suspected moderator and see a page filled, completely filled with red H's, green E's, and blue W's, it makes me wonder what anyone was thinking or not thinking to so blatantly rub the unfair contests in our faces. Then, when we take the time to read the winning story and compare that to the losing story. Oh, my God! Are you kidding me?

Perhaps, as is everyone else in America and around the world, Literotica is facing hard times, too. I've noticed the hit count is half of what it used to be in 2007 through 2009. Perhaps, with more pornography sites on the net, Literotica is not making the money that it used to make. Perhaps, Literotica has discovered a way to save a few dollars by not paying prize money to legitimate contest winners, and taking turns to pay their moderators ficticious prize money, instead.

I don't know. It's puzzling to me, just as it still puzzles me how my story that wasn't even approved and posted, yet, could have bashing votes and low scores. It also puzzles me that, even though I faithfully enter all theme contests with multiple submissions, how my stories are not swept of their 1 and 2 bashing votes, in the way they used to be swept and in the way the the stories of other authors are. Go figure. What do I know? I'm just a dumb writer of erotica.

Stories with a date and a greyed out "pending" are pre-approved. Typically, they will automatically go live at the midnight transition on the date listed.

However, for whatever reason, the stories that go live at midnight nowadays -- whether pre-approved or going through the queue normally -- don't stay there. They're up for a brief period, and then the New List reverts to the previous day's state for an hour or two.

I have yet to see one revert back to the greyed out "pending" status when this happens, but I've only had queue approved stories experience this, so it's entirely possible that the pre-approved stories do revert back. I suspect this has something to do with automatic back-ups of the site, much like how edited stories don't immediately reflect the changes after the "edited" submission is approved.

While the stories are visible, people can read and vote on them. They're also on the top of the "New" list and part of a relatively small number of stories that are actually new. Thus, in my experience, they almost always attract votes during the brief stint on the list at midnight.

This is the most likely scenario. In your case, either someone who didn't like your story or someone who sits like a vulture waiting to give you low scores saw it before any of your readership did while it was briefly at the top of the "New" list.

No contract with either publisher. An e-mail of agreement with each story. Nonexclusive rights. I can continue to do anything I want/can do with the works, while the publisher has a right to publishing them both digitally and in print.

Did Laurel answer your question on why the votes a day before the story posted?

Did Laurel answer your question on why the votes a day before the story posted?

Nope. It's hit of miss with Laurel. Sometimes she answers my PM's and sometimes she doesn't.

Thanks for telling me about the no contract deal. It's still a bit disconcerting submitting all your hard work without the safety net of a contract. Nonetheless, I'm going to go ahead and submit my work and join the e-Book library of online novels.

Who knows? Maybe a famous actor or Hollywood director will like my story so much that they'll steal it and change the scene, setting, and names. Then, after my plaugurism lawsuit is settled, after the red carpet is rolled up, and after no one knows that I'm the one who wriote the story, I'll split a hot dog with my dog in celebration of my movie, while watching it alone on TV.

"So sad. Woe is me. Poor me."

Thanks. That makes sense. Please ignore all my previous supposition.

Oh, and alllow me to be the first to congratulate you on winning the Nude Day contest.

Oops, sorry. I'm so embarrassed. I just realized, by the lack of your reponse, oh, mighty Dark one, that it may not be your turn to win a theme contest, especially after having just won a monthly contest. Duh! Who's turn is it? Tex?

I lose track sometimes of who's turn it is to win a writing contest around here. Gees, you'd think I'd know by now with so few winners and the same writers winning.

So, who's turn is it this time? I suppose I could go through the select few contest winners and just count the blue W's to see, who's scheduled to win next.

Truly, I don't know why anyone bothers to enter a contest around here, when the winner is already predetermined, before the contest even begins. Maybe I should buy a lottery ticket. With the odds 175 million to one, I have a better chance of winning the lottery.

"Shit! That fucking hurt. I was just struck by lightning. Now, what are the odds of that? Still better than winning a writing contest at Literotica.com, I guess. Huh?

Sorry to correct you, oh master of the copy and paste, but shouldn't it be, Gone Fishin'.

Now, if you went fishing, even fisting, instead of copying and pasting the same woodsy story about a fantasy nymph, then the rest of us would have a chance to win a contest.

Good luck with your fishing trip. I hope you catch a big one.

Oh, I invite anyone who chooses to investigate your "cut-n-paste" bash on my stories you've never opened, let alone read. In fact, I'll assist by giving handy links to the entire series :D

Finally home in the northern Minnesota wild of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area after years of study to become a doctor, Dara is relaxing before she starts her practice. A Nude Day encounter offers a chance to save a lost love, and perhaps kindle a new one.

Thank for the links. That's considerately kind of you. When you have an in, however with Literotica, when you are employed by them or volunteer for them, it doesn't matter if you wrote a story, much in the way that Jack Nickolson wrote a story in The Shining, "Jack Is A Dull Boy," you're still going to win contests here.

I know it. You know it. We all know it. We only have to open your page, along with a few of the chosen other authors, who have a hand in the daily operation of Literotica to see all the red H's, blue W's, and green E's that they have and the other better writers on the site don't.

Only, your links to your stories don't hold up to criticism, when we compare your winning stories with the losing stories of so many other writers, who aren't given the same unfair chance to win a contest. What does it matter? It's all arbitrary anyway. One writer's story is a loser, when the contests are fixed.

Seriously, Dark, you're a numbers guy, with so very many contest entries in the hopper during all theme and monthly contests, the odds of you winning more than one contest, never mind six or eight or ten, in the way some (ahem) favored authors have won is astronomical to account for and impossible to justify, while keeping a straight face (wink, wink).

Good luck to you. I hope you and your Literotica friends continue to win LIterotica contests to prove me right.

Congratulations on winning, yet, another contest. Your mother most be so proud.

I let my work and my posts speak for themselves. Answering your accusations and bashing isn't worth the effort when anything anyone wants to know is right there in my post record and in my story file.

As is yours.

Like I said -- go fish :)

Green Es? What green Es? (I think that you can't find any of these folks who have any more green Es than you do pretty much puts "silly" to the supposition that they are Laurel's pets.)

Freddie, you have to create an alt that doesn't scream "Freddie" within a couple of posts, and you need to stop shotgunning stories (but you've been told this frequently before). IF it's so important to you to win a contest. And apparently it is.

I don't know either of you two from Adam, but what I see here is you being a jerk to somebody who attempted to give you a polite and factual answer to your question.
