How Do I Withdraw a Story?

Hello everyone. I just had my third story sent back for false AI flags, which I will discuss at more length in another post. I have decided to withdraw that story from Lit's consideration. I have worked on it since March. I wrote it, carefully crafted it for this site specifically, then, mindful of my own and others' experience with the AI system falsely flagging human work, I ran it through an AI detector. Then I revised it. Then I did it again, determined to get to 0% so there would be no possibility of an AI rejection.

Yesterday, I got an AI rejection. I then ran the story through an AI detector yet again. 0% AI. So I pulled up some old stories of mine from the 2006-09 period, before we all had these AI tools. I ran them through the AI detector. Each of them got a score from 20-55% AI. Clearly, something is off it's picking up pre-AI stories as largely or primarily AI.

The notice says "Please feel free to re-submit the story after a Volunteer Editor has examined it, or after you've made revisions." I'VE ALREADY DONE THAT! So I decided not to submit the story here. It's unfortunate, but necessary. I am getting praise on the story elsewhere.

My question is, how do I remove the story from my Returned box? Yes, I have already contacted Laurel & Manu to tell them I'm withdrawing it. What else do I do?

You've done what you need to do in contacting Laurel regarding deletion. It may take a day or to for the roundtuit, but she'll tend to biz soon enough. You did copy the current link in your note, right?

Delete the draft. There's a bin icon next to the story, somewhere.

To delete a published story, resubmit it with the same title plus DELETE at the end, and include a Note to the Editor asking for it to be taken down. It'll be treated like an Edit, might take a while, but it will be purged forever, you won't be able to recover it.

Alternatively, you could Report it, and ask that way. That might be quicker, I don't know.

I asked for some early content to be removed years ago, I think it took a couple of weeks.

Report it?

It breaks my heart that I have to do this, but I can't play these back and forth games anymore. I'll just let audiences elsewhere read it.
