I hate those huge pop-ups where I have to move the damn window to close it.

D'oh!!

chit, I never thought of that.

I'm gonna post-it note that to the puter.

thank you!!!

Click on the symbol in the upper LEFT corner, you will get a drop down menu. click on close

I have a programme called "Popup stopper" but it doesn't seem to work against them anymore.....don't know why ?

oooooh, ty. Another method.

My own method was to curse at them thoroughly and click and drag with the mouse, becoming more and more irritated.

Shiner, is pop-up stopper a free DL, or did you buy it?

I don't know about all of them, but the pop up stopper I have, I have to "teach" it which ones to stop. When one comes up, I open the program, double click the link in the list and it's blocked for good. Easy as.

Another method is to right click on either the drag bar at the top of a window or the entry in the status bar to get the same menu you get from clicking the upper left corner of a window.

ALT-F4 still the quickest...she's a smart lady, that SweetCherry

If you are using Internet Exploder on a Wintel machine, use Crazy Browser. It is a shell around the IE browser engine and it has tabbed browsing like Mozilla/Netscape, but more importantly you can configure it to not allow popups.

The problem with the various external popup stoppers I have tried is that they seem to have to wait until the window tries to popup to be able to kill it. I can see this by the window actually starting to draw and then being automatically killed. They also are a bit of a pain to use when you actually want the popup and they interfere with starting up some browsers.

The only time I notice a popup delay with Crazy Browser is on some porn sites where they build in some kind of delay, supposedly to prevent you from closing the window before they popup the window - or maybe it is just poor programming. The only other problem is when I get a PM notice here - the dialog does not open the new window, but then I haven't bothered to learn if there is a shortcut key or not to allow it to popup (I just looked, I guess there isn't). What I do is just open my PM window manually.

There are other browsers you can get that work in a similar fashion, like Mozilla/Netscape and Opera (can't show dynamic content) - but those are kind of slow and buggy. The nice thing about CB is it keeps all your IE settings, it is as fast as IE since it is IE, and it has much of the goodies of Mozilla.

Neoplanet is another browser built on IE's shel that allows control of pop-ups and new windows..it very politely asks you
"Shall Neo allow the new window?"

Thank you so much, you folks are so helpful.

And, ummm... Shiner? is that a new avatar? Cause I don't remember it from the other day, and I do think I'd have noticed...

Very nice.

Yes it is.....it talked to me.

If you are using a Mac w/ OSX

Get the new Chimera browser at mozilla.org. It was a built-in pop up killer turned on by default. It is also much faster than the browser made by the monopoly.

and then

Smiles back. (Doesn't mention that he can't stop looking at that av).
