Hey, who would you rather be, Elton John or Bernie Taupin.

The guy with the fame and the money?

Or just the guy with the money?

But, I tend to like my box. It seems to make me quite happy.

(Taupin - I don't like fame)

Damn I thought I would have edited that before you read it.

I think so anyway. Tiny Dancer, Rocketman, Yellow Brick Road.

All good tracks.

I was just yanking your chain. :)

I couldn't tell you what any of the songs you listed sound like, but I know he has a few songs that I like. Just not a big fan of his.

Yeah. I'd have said what she said if I wasn't shaking my head in disgust over my Insect Despot line.

I find that hard to believe.

That kind of line makes Robin Williams spin in his grave.

I already picked Bernie...fame is over rated. Money is cool though.

There are two reasons I'd pick Elton.

One, his fame gives him a platform to say what he likes.

Two, he can live off being famous. If Taupin sold his songs years ago he couldn't get on celebrity gameshows as the "guy who wrote some songs"

I would never make it as a famous person...well, a famous hated person maybe. I am too politically incorrect.

I don't like being the center of attention either. Just give me the money and leave me alone and things would be cool.

That's why I picked Bernie.

I'd almost rather be dead, than Elton John.

Bernie Taupin is regarded as one of the most prolific lyricists of the 20th century. Taupin's
27 year collaboration with Elton John can be said to rival the success and impact of the
songwriting team of Lennon and McCartney. Taupin's perceptive lyrics have sold in excess
of 100 million records including the latest Rocket/Island release "Made in England" and the
albums "The One","Elton John","Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" and "Captain Fantastic and
the Brown Dirt Cowboy". These recordings produced among other hits, "Your Song",
"Goodbye Yellow Brick Road", "Daniel", "Candle In The Wind" and "The One".

In 1991, Taupin's talents were exemplified in a 1991 compilation package of Taupin/John works entitled "Two Rooms". The tribute took the form of video, autobiographical book and album showcasing the two artists' work as interpreted by top music talents of today, including George Michael, Sinead O'Connor, Sting, Eric Clapton and Phil Collins.

Other accolades include 1994 ASCAP Songwriters of The Year, induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, six Ivor Novello Awards (the European equivalent to the Grammy), and the coveted INA's International Achievement of Excellence. Taupin was also inducted into The American Academy of Achievement in 1994.

Taupin produced Commitment to Life VI in November of 1992 which raised an unprecedented $4 million
dollars for AIDS Project Los Angeles. He achieved artistic critical acclaim for mounting the event that tapped the talents of the entire music industry including Barbara Streisand, Elton John, Liza Minnelli, Natalie Cole, Patti LaBelle, Eddie Van Halen, Billy Joel, Branford Marsalis, Wynona Judd, Lyle Lovett and others. Commitment to Life VIII "Under The Influence" followed in January of 1995 which this year included Whoopi Goldberg, Elton John, George Michael, Terence Trent D'Arby, Don Henley, Sheryl Crowe, Joni Mitchell, Julie Andrews, Melissa Etheridge, Sandra Bernhardt,
Marianne Faithful, Garth Brooks, Clint Black and many others.

In 1988 an autobiography entitled "A Cradle of Haloes" was published in Great Britain. The book chronicles Taupin's upbringing in rural England and documents his youthful fascination with rock music legends and the true American West.

Taupin has lived in California for 20 years and is now a United States citizen. Along with his wife, Stephanie, Taupin owns Cicada, one of Los Angeles' most popular and distinctive restaurants.
