Hi, I'm here to let people know about HR4681, a bill that was recently passed by congress and includes a sneaky little clause allowing the american government to increase their powers to spy upon their citizens internet use. I thought you might be the sort of people who would care strongly for your internet privacy.

This article http://rt.com/usa/213735-congress-nsa-expanded-powers/ contains more information about the bill. Please, if this is something you find meaningful, help me to spread the word of what is being done and, if you're American, contact your house representative (you can use http://www.house.gov/representatives/find/ to easily send them an email).

If you're interested in knowing more, http://pastebin.com/W5BpTzme contains more information and if you'd like to help out spreading the word we're organising in the #HR4681ops channel on irc.rizon.net.

Please, for the freedom of the internet I grew up on, for our right to read sexy stories without the government keeping records of everything we view, just send an email to your representative letting him know you disapprove and tell anyone you know what's happening.

Thanks.

Laurel -

Has Lit ever been subpoenaed or pressured to give access to logs or other identifying information?

I'm sure the bureaucrats only use the information to help them find the good stuff.

We comply with U.S. law enforcement warrants of limited scope pertaining to specific criminal cases.

We retain very limited info on users, and do not share it with anyone except in the above situation.

Both the Patriot Act and FISA (Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act) Amendments Act come up for renewal in 2015. Unfortunately, rather than roll back these abusive laws, the new Congress will likely be more inclined to further restrict our rights. Last month's Senate vote, Bill to Restrict N.S.A. Data Collection Blocked in Vote by Senate Republicans, http://www.nytimes.com/2014/11/19/u..._th_20141119&nl=todaysheadlines&nlid=66636455, points the way.

Ah, it's really Senator McConnell who hates our freedom.

I'm not worried. I don't have shit to hide. And if I do, I'll defend it. Big deal. As long as it doesn't open up some portal to steal my identity like Jason Bourne, I don't care.

This is something we should all worry about. Whether you think you have something to hide or not, it is the same intrusion Senator McCarthy used, and Hitler. Not ok, it is an invasion of our civil rights.
