How would you know if your Transmission in your car went bye bye?

Because I think mine did on the way home...if not bye bye, very very close then. :(

No...was able to drive it home with a huge ass freaking noise coming from the engine.

Hold on I'll ask Little Red Corvette(LRC) she should know!......or ask the bot, it will be along shortly.....

;) :D

What kind of noise and when did it happen?

A dying transmission will feel spongy when it shifts or you may get no acceleration after shifts.

If the engine is the one making noise.. it's not your trannie that is the problem

What sort of engine noise was it?

Well...the only way I can describe it is a LOUD noise that gets louder every time I accelerate and dies down when I drift. I mean loud as hell. And it makes me think its the Transmission because I've been having transmission problems in the past. Such as (I have automatic) sometimes (ok fine, often) when I do a complete stop and go again, it gets stuck in 2nd gear when i didn't even do anything ot make it go into that gear. So I have to hit the accellartor hard and it jumps back into normal gear and everything is fine.

koalabear 's bot is switching to Chilton quotes ..... ask him

Erm, last time I went to Pep Boys...honestly don't remember how long ago that was.

And I can't afford another car. :(

I will tomorrow, kinda hard to when its dark outside. What if I got enough fluid?

If thcar is in gear give it the gas and the car doesn't move this would be a good indication.

bring it to my house.. I'll check it out.

If that isn't possible.. make friends with a mechanic FAST! :D

Ok check the trans fluid it may be burnt smell it if it does smell burnt it will need to be changed.

I blew the transmission in a '79 Chevy Caprice once. Didn't really sound like anything but the fact that I had the accelerator on the floor (it was a V8) and was only doing 20 mph was an indication that something was wrong. Luckily it happened a few blocks from my house. There is still a stain all the way up my parents road and into the driveway (fluid leaked for the last mile or so).

What kind of noise? Sounds like you've had some trannie problems but a noise that's louder when you step on the gas could be exhaust related. Need more of a description of the noise.

Last time I had a transmission go out there was no doubt. The engine reved up and the car slowed down and coasted to a stop!

Also, if you see little metal flakes on the stick ... verybad.
