internet troll.

one of your friends or someone you're getting along with very well suddenly makes a confession to you and tells you he/she makes it a habit of coming up with alternate screennames to insult and cause trouble on the internet?

what would you do if you found out yayati or hanss or high school jock was someone you liked?

I dont know....

I just wanted to say Hi and let you know I was thinking of ya

i would die a shameful death......

or maybe just kick that person's ass into submission? :D *grins* depending on my mood, and theirs...

your pm box was full last night!

hope the day put you in better spirits.

I would think its kinda funny. But I might suggest they back off the extremity. It's not that hard to make fun of most people without really going for the throat.

This happened to me actually.

Hanns is a friend of mine IRL.

My response? To show you where he lives:

In all seriousness, I would be very dissapointed, ask them why they felt they needed to insult people and act the way they do, and strongly suggest that they get professional counseling. I really do think people who troll are in need of professional mental help; something is very wrong with their mind if they feel the need to act the part of a troll, even if it is just an act.

I'm guessing i'd feel dissapointed, surprised, confused...

I will be honest, it would all depend on who the person is.

Edited to add: I have friends I care about a lot, that doesn't mean I always like the things they do. I would probably forgive if it's someone I really cared about. However, I probably wouldn't trust that person with much anymore.

I've had this happen to me on another board. I truly considered the person a friend and had spent time with him and his family in person.

I consider him an acquaintance now, and rarely talk with him at all. He definitely isn't someone that i share anything important with anymore.

If they were being thoughtless, rude, stupid or needlessly unkind to people .. which is exactly what you're describing ... well, that's my only pet peeve ... I'd let them know it made me wonder about other aspects of their personality that I hadn't seen. I wouldn't trust them. I cannot trust anyone who purposely hurts others. Period.

Well, we already suspect that a few regular posters have alts that are used just to make nasty remarks. And a few people have admitted to doing so with non-regged personas.

It doesn't really bother me much, but I wonder how many of those people would make snide remarks like that if Laurel showed just a partial IP of each poster?

I couldn't be friends with someone who did that to the extent we've seen recently. If I found out that it was someone I was close to and they refused to stop, I'd out them.

I would chew them out and never speak to them again. Depending on the severity of the actions, I would consider outing them. There is no place in my world for troll-like behavior. I expect better from my friends than that. If you deliberately hurt people, you're no friend of mine.

Shocked and lose trust and respect in them.

Debbie...I'm so ashamed. I promise I'll never be Unregistered again.

And it was me that left your bike out in the rain.

And I hid your car keys that one day.

Oh...and I played with your undies, too.

right on!

I know someone who became a troll..someone I cared about...it hurt...because the person that was trolled was someone else I was close with. It made me question so many things...

I find the suggestion that some of the trolls are existing Lit members using an alter ego some what sad.
In real life it would be a bit like finding out that some one you liked and trusted was a member of the KKK.

Betrayed is how I would feel.

If I found this out, then away with their head. And no more friendship, I think we have alot more fun without the trolls. IMHO
