How was your day at the office/home?

Someone called wanting advice on how they got a birthday cake thrown at their face, and 'how much was this worth?'.

The reply we wanted to give, but didn't:

Depends on whether the male stripper was still in the middle, and which body part hit her in the face. Then there could be a strong argument for sexual assault.

The other was how many candles and were they still alight?

How was your day? :D

Hmmmmmm

My day was filled with work-related issues. Paying bills, doing laundry, cleaning house, getting kids ready for school.

Tonight, however, looks to be much better.

Rum and naughty movies and great sex.

;)

My day was spent trying to train a new employee who responds to every instruction with, "But why?" in an unbelievable little whimper. I've spent the past week with this. I'll be going postal soon.

Min, as I look at your AV I am yelling, "Don't jump!"

My reaction is to quietly, and in total awe of the view in front of me, repeat her trainee's question, 'But Why?'

We secured a successful prestrike on one of our lawsuits, coinciding with some upgrades on our IT stuff and the aquisition of a few more clients. My partner cashed checks today, too, and we're solid in the black and turning profit by month three. Don't know how many people know much about independant business ventures, but we're close with one of the former bigwigs at Dupont and the lady who invented the plastic palette (over the wooden ones)... and we've stunned some of the business community.

All in all, a good day.

Heh, and we thought I was just a pretty face.

I've been having trouble sleeping. So by the time I finally do konk out, I end up sleeping into the afternoon.

So, today, I woke at three, ate a potato for brunch, polished some silver and then started to knit a hat. And surfed the internet.

Oy.

Well ... this morning I went to the open air swimmingpool. Weather wasnt as sunny as yesterday, but still good enough. So I swam about one and a half kilometers and watched young sexy girls the rest of the time :D.

After I got home I slept two hours ... now I am pretty banged up and not able to do much ... and its still only half past four in the afternoon.

Our A/C went out. I've had a headache for about a week straight now. Life sucks (ok, so not all of it, but part of it).

I've been to Dover and I gave away 14 boxes of surplus books.

I still have too many books in my shop despite being in the second week of a half-price sale.

Tomorrow I'll start packing more boxes to give away.

Short day at work, finishing at lunch time to go visit my chiropracter, hoping she'll sort out by aching back and hips.

At the moment, the reaction to her work is setting in and I hurt even more than before I visited her.

But I know it will pass, and tomorrow I'll feel better than fine.

For another 6 months anyway.

Then tomorrow I do what Ogg is doing, packing up surplus books to give to charity shops. Not today, chiropracter would kill me if I so much as lift anything more than a glass ( ;) ) after her treatment.

Wonderful excuse to do nothing.

Packing Books

Please use small boxes.

Books are heavy. It is easier to lift two small boxes of books than one large one.

Thanks for the tip, Ogg, already am. I use those boxes that the stationers use that hold 5 reams of paper, with a lid.

They are perfect. And not too heavy so I can't lift them.

I have used something like 100 of them so far to pack all my crockery and glassware, and the zillions of books all over the house. They are a delightful fuschia pink and white, and look very fetching in neat piles dotted all over the house, secured with 2 inch wide brown tape just to make sure, criss-crossed just like parcel ribbon.

An attractive addition to the decor of any home. :D

We're trying to deny that it's so close to back to school time and focus on still doing summer things like swimming and cooking outside and not shopping for fall clothes.

We're probably in the minority of parents that hate when our kids are not home and would like summer to be a year round occurrence.

I'm jealous of JW as our business is back in the red after a number of years of black ink, but looks like things are improving.

I think Minsue had the right idea, don't stand with your back to The Canyon while your SO says 'back up so I can get you in the whole picture'. It wasn't the Canyon, but she did get me to back into the ocean when it wasn't summer.

and soon I'll get back to working on that black ink issue. But not just yet ;)

Can I type about yesterday?

I do need to digress a bit.....

My oldest daughter graduated from college (CU) in May. Started her first career job a couple of weeks back, in Evergreen Co, a mountain community west of Denver.

Now it is time to find an apartment. Well, after searching for several days, none really exist in the community. Tragic? Actually, an opportunity.

A lender friend has been hammering me to borrow money for apartments ( I have built some complexes around the country). To make a long story short, I can borrow $18M to build a complex with 168 apts, requiring less than a $1M down. Sounds great!!

Then, after dealing with a broker in the community for the past week, we may not get it done, cuz no land exists that is 8-9 acres along the highway I want.

Of all the (*&^#(!^#() luck. But, I have not given up.

Now, want to consol for me?

Well, I'm not sure you're really in need of consolation. But you have made me cheery for some former clients. In another life I help fund a partnership to build apartment complexes in the southwest. We looked at a number of sites the developer was working on and part of our deal was that we got to pick four of the five sites. At the closing we owned developments in Tuscon in the Catalina foothills, Northeast Phoenix (near the All Arabian Horse show land), Scottsdale on former King Ranch land and our last pick, was (you guessed it) Evergreen, CO.

I remember that one of the reasons we liked the Colorado property was that it was the only one that did not require a zoning change in order to build apartments.

Good luck with finding some land.

Vacation

I married my friend and his fabulous new wife Saturday, at his mother's garden. Garden party began four hours later with seven times as many invitees, much good cheer, fine food and live music. A very good time! The happy couple is off to my camp (that's a Maine term) for a six-day spell in the woods without possibility of contact (no road in to it, no electricity, no telephone, outside the cell phone range).

Then they meet a few of us for a weeklong canoe trip. Ah Wilderness! They tell me the Official Honeymoon will be next year, touring Ireland, but this will do for now.

So Sunday and Monday we picked up the mess in the kitchen and caught up on life. Today we hit a small pond to feel water under the keel again, and this evening there's a concert under the stars.

I've been away from the board here for three or four days, since I had wedding guests at the house and hors-d'oeuvres and desserts to help with. I see Wishfulthinking's delicious novice nun story is up. That's pretty nice.

Bloody computers!

My day consisted of the computer and server not cooperating at all. Couldn't open PDF files, everything kept freezing and I had to restart over and over again. I spillt water all over my work desk and more comp problems. Got moody and mad. ARGH!

Oh, and it's warm as hell outside now. Then I handed in pics for printing. Entering a local photo contest tomorrow. :)

The AC was broken, and the repairmen that supposedly fixed it in the afternoon had told our bosses that we MUSTN'T open the windows, or it wouldn't work.

Yeah, right!

If the damned thing doesn't work after 3 hours, there MIGHT be reason to assume that it won't work the next 4 either... I suggested we don't give a _________ about the AC, and open the damned windows instead, because the wind is much cooler and fresher than the AC anyway!

But did they listen? Noooooo...

It was atleast 30 indoors; the humidity in the air was so that you ould almost touch it, you felt like entering a greenhouse every time you walked in from a break. We were all sweaty and thirsty, and my naked arms kept sticking to papers, to the desk, to everything.

I felt like a human post-it note.

I am still on vacation....

Tiring....boring...I am ansty.

I did read Mntman's story so that makes things perk up a bit...but....I need something...I need time to write.

My day is wondering what topic I can use to make up a story.

My day consisted of sitting around doing nothing, reading the boards.

Later on, we will enjoy a home cooked meal (a rarity for us) and watch the opening ceremonies. :)
