I am fairly new to NYC - while I have my small group of friends, they are all married and generally busy. I am dying to meet someone but am generally to shy to go hitting on people at bars here. I am from Colorado where it was generally pretty easy to meet people. NY personalities are a heck of a lot stronger!
Any ideas?

New Yorkers also tend to be less trusting than westerners, particularly early on. It's a survival thing. Other than that, the best advice is no different than with anywhere else: Find groups who do what you like to do and get active.

Meetup is a good site, lots of groups to choose from so you can either just home in on one type of group, or join many for your different sides. I moved here 2 years ago, am super shy and I hear ya! Good luck!

i second meetup, esp considering they're headquartered in the city and they do hire people to get involved in their communities.

I find it actually sucks being single in NYC and not having a type A personality. I think most guys that have lots of success are that type. I was raised to be polite, and also am sort of on the quiet side- don't actually want to change any of that. So meeting people from square one is tough. Especially in this type of environment. But I do love exploring stuff in the city and everything else it has to offer.
