How safe is your country/state?

No, it's most definitely a myth. Some politician came up with the claim, scaremongering for votes (as politicians do) and it was widely reported. The subsequent conversations with local residents and police officers, explaining why the claim is ridiculous, weren't headline material.

This appears to mirror the data manipulation regarding crime statistics. Same/same or...?

I'm sure you get that there too. The full front page lie will get an inch of redaction and apology hidden in the back next week.

Most definitely; because the lede is more important than the truth these days.

This idiotic tactic managed to fool half of voting Americans.

I remember how upset you were when trump vehemently insisted that MS13 was tattooed on homeboy's knuckles. 🙄

And how you're all over the lying about the Epstein list 🙄

Let’s look at Tennessee. Red states don’t fake data, right Harpy?

Homocide rate: 86 per million population
Traffic fatalities: 186 per million population
Life expectancy: 72.4 years

Not impressive.

This is probably because you have all the local scarecrows crucified on crosses out in your cornfield.

A vivid lesson that deterrence works.
Only shooting around here is an occasional coyote. Well...and me Mexican neighbors shooting tequila bottles. :)

That could be the result of the deterrent effect from all those poor suckers out in the corn fields with a sharp pole shoved up their asses.

Imagine living in a country where your leader is a racist, peado, liar, liar, fat oaf, liar, peado, racist and just as thick as pig's shit???
And you still wear a cap with his name on 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

We could live in the UK and have to listen to you spew your vile shit all the time instead of only occasionally.

My country is in a real mess but still ten times behind the state yours is in.
If you don't believe me ask your mom when you wake up in bed next to her in the morning.

What makes you feel unsafe, dolf?

How far away does the most recent murder have to be before you start to feel safe?

Would being armed make you feel more safe?

Do you have to use vehicles to travel? If so, how safe do you feel on the road?

Are you in good health? Is the specter of your mortality weighing on your thoughts more often?

I have lived in poor neighborhoods. I felt less safe there. Being assaulted and robbed certainly didn't help. I have never been armed.

On the road, I feel unsafe if I see someone driving erratically or disobeying speed limits.

I wouldn't call myself healthy, but I rarely get sick. That said, I could be living a healthier lifestyle. I don't feel safe or unsafe about the longevity of my life.

Really the only time I give much thought to my safety is at work.

How many people ask themselves if their country feels safe? I never have until now. And I'm surrounded by guns.

What makes you feel unsafe, dolf?
Day to day? Nothing.
In the grander scheme of things? There's a background hum of rising inequality, global politics, environmental issues, etc. It's not something I worry about, but it's something I'm aware of.

If I lived somewhere where random people were mugged or caught in the crossfire of gang violence, I wouldn't feel as safe. Living in a low crime area is nice.
Would being armed make you feel more safe?
Nope. Guns are fun at the range, but I've never felt like I want one to hand.
I do sleep better with a big arsehole dog in the house though.
Do you have to use vehicles to travel? If so, how safe do you feel on the road?
It's a 10 minute drive to work or shopping. The majority of my journeys are quiet backroads, where I've never seen an accident. The main roads occasionally have a rush hour fender bender, but they're generally pretty safe. I'm cautious walking where there's no pavements/sidewalks, but not scared.
Are you in good health? Is the specter of your mortality weighing on your thoughts more often?
Gym twice a week, qigong, lots of vegetables, fresh country air, etc. My mortality doesn't weigh on me.
Mortality in general though, every time I read the news or scroll past the social media of people in war zones.
The current headlines about asylum seekers? People feeling unsafe due to people fleeing places they feel unsafe.
I'm reminded how lucky I am to feel safe, and also how fragile safety is.

I feel a hell of a lot safer pushing 50 than I did in my youth. I don't get followed, catcalled, stalked or pursued. I've aged out of looking like prey, and it's been liberating.
