I know that there is such a thing as guro in the visual world, but does it have a literary equivalent? I've noticed that some of the best selling stuff hits that violence-sex crossroads. NonCon is becoming more and more mainstream, and BDSM is downright mainstream. If the violence is an aspect of the (totally hypothetical) sex, and it fits into that general noncon/horrorotica niche, how brutal is too brutal? Or, like with guro, does the over-the-top aspect of the fantasy just enhance the experience for the audience?

Yes...

If someone has to go to ever increasing extremes to be sexually gratified, then they're on the wrong path.
