How much do you think the average American cares about America?

Being less than one and three eligible voters show up to vote at local elections, and barely two in three of registered voters show up to vote in the generals, and less than 40% are actively engaged with news in the country.... Just how much do we think Americans really care about America?

They don't. But why would they? No matter which party is in control...the poor will get poorer and the number of poor will increase. Data from June 2022 shows 61% of the population is living paycheck to paycheck. That means one car breakdown...they are fucked. One health care issue....they are fucked. One unexpected increase due to inflation...they are fucked. The entire system is broken.

The voting figures are the same in most European countries and the UK.

The elderly tend to vote every time. The younger people? Less often. Many feel, as I do, that their vote is irrelevant because one party will always win in that constituency, so voting anything else is pointless.

But the problem with this...same as we have here...is it favors the party extremes and not the party center.

The system is rigged. Right wing yahoo states with minimal populations like Wyoming get two senators the same as states like New York and California with millions and millions of voters. The system is rigged. Losers win elections. The system is rigged. Money equals free speech. The system is rigged. You want to know why people don't vote? The system is rigged and run by greedy, narcissistic, amoral, degenerates who don't give a fuck about you. That's why.

Most believe there is nothing they can do which is true and they must concentrate on their own problems... like money.

Yet for all the things you've listed, before they came to be (citizens united, Bush appointed, popular vote issues) voting has actually increased after them.

Your argument seems to be that since the situation became so sucky over the last 20 years that people are turned off and think the system is broken. Yet voter participation has actually increased. Granted voter and citizen participation sucks but it used to suck more.

Kinda makes what you're saying seem like whiny excuses.

Last time I checked we just lost abortion rights. I don't think the system is broken. The system is demonstrably broken. I'm not the one with whiny excuses here. But bless your little heart. You just keep on voting for Democrats like a good girl.......while you still can without having to ask your husband's permission first.

In the UK, at the last two general elections, there was a non-party (or cross-party) campaign to get more people to register to vote and vote.

In Canterbury, Kent, the university societies asked students to register to vote at the university and not at home. The result was a narrow win for
Labour (against the National trend) because the universities' students outnumbered the local population. That was the first time in over 100 years that the MP had not been a Conservative.

So basically after having your inconsistencies questioned, you pivot to condescension and personal attacks.

Maybe you're just better off sticking to whining. Unless, ya know, you can address them without lashing out.

Cynicism and apathy are persistent in American politics

I care very little or take little pride in America or being American. Honestly what sucks most about American is Americans.

I find the best approach is to not allow yourself to be in any position where their policies matter. Don’t blame the referee for sucking at the game. Just play and make sure you win and win big.

I’ll never allow myself to be put in a position where anything would have that deep an affect on me or mine. The rest of you can go get bent.

Sad but true.

What inconsistency? Did abortion rights just go bye bye or not? Is the U.S. the only first world country where 45,000 people die every year die from lack of universal health care? Exactly what metric are you using to measure success? Your feelings? How many threads have you personally started "whining" about abortion rights yet when people actually hold those elected officials responsible for protecting those rights you act like they are the problem. Keep shaking those poms poms for the do nothing, surrender monkey Democrats as your Constitutional rights go straight down the toilet. They are smiling and laughing at you.

They understand American politics just fine. That's why they don't vote. They know the system is rigged.

You believing the same horseshit just demonstrates my point. Those on the right figured it out, which is why Roe was overturned. Either understand the system or cry about the system.

WTF are you even talking about? Everybody understands the system. It's rigged. Rich people win and the little guy gets fucked. I don't know why you are making this more complicated than it is. I'm sure you have some long winded diatribe about arcane rules of Senate or how to whip Congressional votes but the bottom line is rich people win and the little guy gets fucked. You don't have to be Fellini to figure that out.

It's not complicated. The system isn't broken...you just don't like it. It takes time, dedication and fortitude to accomplish things.

A 12 year old child is brutally raped, by law, must carry and birth the baby of their rapist but the system isn't broken? I'm just fussy and don't understand how things work. Silly me.

Yah, it's tough when you conflate complex things...I get it.

What has been conflated exactly? The politicians elected and the laws created? You're talking nonsense here. Democrats have let abortion rights die on the vine and you have nothing but endless excuses for failure.

Complex things. State abortion laws, federal laws, scotus decisions.

Democrats never codified the right to abortion because the political pressure had other priorities.

Not voting isnt the answer to your bitching....moving to another country is your answer. Good luck.

They had other priorities? What priorities are higher than protecting basic human rights of child rape victim's access to abortion?
