How long does it take for story approval

My stories been in a pending status for 10 days. Not sure what's going on or what to do.

I can only tell my experiences.

First, stories always publish around 12:30 or 1:30 am Eastern US time (I'm not sure which, curse these time changes!!) each day. Any that are approved within the past 24 hours get published in a big batch at this time. If you check your control panel and the story says 'pending' next to it, it is not yet approved. If it says 'new' and has a publishing date, then it's approved and it's going up on that date right after midnite.

I have 8 stories published here. My first one went up on the 2nd day. One of my stories went up on the 5th day. Another went up on the very first cycle (yay!). The other 5 all went up on the 2nd day. Of course, none of my stories push the boundaries of any site rules (yet), so that may or may not have made the process smoother for me, not sure. My grammar and English is also strong so not sure if that greases the rails at all neither, probably not.

You can always scroll back through your works history and find the date that you submitted and the day that it published and do the math.

It took 10 days for my Series to post but the artwork for it never made it. Tried again and still nothing. Anyone else have issues getting cover art to display on series?

There are some pretty stringent guidelines for what is allowed here in terms of cover art, so there are many possible reasons it might have gotten kicked back. Even stuff that eventually gets approved can take weeks in pending.
Without seeing your proposed cover art it's hard to say what might be the issue, but some of the more common ones:

  • Graphic nudity is not allowed. Breasts or butts are sometimes allowed, more commonly if they're drawn/painted/etc.
  • Photos of real people, even fully clothed, can be problematic for copyright reasons. The site is, I think, unwilling to devote the time and resources to verifying that the author owns the rights and often rejects them, erring on the side of caution.
  • The site does not generally welcome AI-generated content.
If none of those seem likely to apply to your situation, you can try providing more details about the art in question, and maybe someone can identify the issue.

All of mine (only 4 so far, with a 5th now in the queue for 4 days) have taken between 4 and 6 days to post.

Thank you Bamagan, I’m going to make a few changes and try again.

It might be quicker to get your story published, then come back and add your cover art later. I have a feeling art gets handled in batches, which can have a couple of weeks in between them.

I sent in a story on 9 February and am still waiting for it to be approved and for it to be included in a series. It's not really fun.

I hate to say it, but it can take a couple of weeks for your story to be approved. If you created the series manually, that sometimes takes even longer.

In my experience, whenever I have had a wait longer than a couple days (that wasn't over a holiday), it was because the story had gone from Pending to New with a publication date, and I went and edited it, which kicked it back out for a second review. In almost every one of those situations, I ended up deleting the story entirely and reposting it fresh, and then it went through faster.

Unfortunately, because of the way the site works, there's no tried and true answer to this question - which is why it tends to come up three or four times a month.

The story should get over the line first, with the manual series stuff added later. The story has to be published for the series feature to work. With the auto-series feature - there's no delay once the second chapter is published.

You can create a manual series separately, then assign stories to it as you submit them. But the series can take quite long to approve. I have a story that was published over a week ago, in a series I created at the same time as I submitted the story, and it's still "pending moderation":

That's what I'm saying. Using the manual series function has nothing to do with the wait time to get the chapter published, but it does impact the joining up. For a standard chaptered story, it's easier (and no delay) to rely on the auto-function.

You can't use the series function, either way, until you have the second piece published. That's when you can add it to a Series. With only one item, there's nothing to link it to, so the series algorithm won't work.

You can create a series without any works at all. In fact, if you do it manually, that's how it works. Once you've created the series, you assign works to it - like the screen cap above shows, you can add just a single work if that's all you have.

But if you have to wait until the site gets around to it, it's a bit self-defeating. Yours is still in progress, but do you know if it will ever get done?

In any event, adding it to a series is not going to affect the wait time for a chapter.

I have my third story waiting to be published. It was in for about a week and I added a tag and changed the category so I suspect it went back to the end of the queue.

But it’s been almost another week now and still pending. Should I yank and redo the whole thing like Sinclair Group did?

Leave it alone.

No. Don't touch it. Everytime you change something, your clock starts all over again. A week for a new writer is typical, usually longer. Patience!

Yeah, I figured it reset the clock. Even though it wasn’t changes to the story text.

It’s been in since the 16th (last alteration) though…
