How do you spell sounds of sexual pleasure?

I mean, once you get past "ooohhh..." and "aaahhh..." how do you write low moans, loud moans, muted groans, orgasmic yelps and all that stuff. I keep making it up in the down and dirty "dialogue", and feeling it is not right. Curious what others do and think about this.

As in all things, moderation is the key.

I have used "sounds" in the past, but quickly realized I didn't like how many of them read.

Don't get me wrong; they don't ruin a story for me, unless they're over exaggerated to the point of silliness.

Umms, ahhhs, mmmm's, ohhhs, all work great, and are easily mixed and matched for variety.

But again, just don't over do it.

You can also just describe the sounds. She moaned softly. He groaned loudly. She squealed. He howled.

Etc etc etc.

I agree not overusing is key. The idea is not to turn a scene into a cartonish written version of internet (video) porn. But as has been repeated to me in other contexts, showing is better than telling. When I say a character moaned softly, or grunted, repeatedly also does not seem to have the visual (read, auditory) impact of somehow "writing" it. Particularly if that vocalized pleasure is indicative of something important in the story line. For example, somebody being edged to the limit of their sanity. Or somebody listening to their sexual partner being pleased by a third party.

In the rarely if at all camp.
Fun of those sounds is they are involuntarily, when we are in our basest nature so out of our control.

An author is also a guide and, even through dialog, it's easy to lose credibility with the reader. (oft a judgy bunch)

I've more interesting ways to express loss of control that don't rely on (now) mostly cliched moans and grunts.

I don't think you can. It was extremely hot when a Lit guy knocked his alarm clock off his bed. :(

Seems a little pointless trying to write sounds, but in sex comic books are lots of examples, most of them not very creative :)

...like a hot desert wind blowing in the maw of an industrial cooling tower.

It was very much more along these lines: Wharrgarbl
I think we can regard this thread as 'answered', now.
