I was wondering recently how most people pick which stories to read. It seems like everyday there are more and more new stories per day, which means I won't get to read a lot of them.

For me there are certain categories that I am sure to read, but I also find I tend to read more stories that are "hot" than are not. And of course there is the brief blurb, and finally the authors. Anything I missed?

Honestly I don't read the stories...much. ;)

When I do, I read the stories of authors that I like, and I always check out the stories written by authors I know.

I don't read the stories much either, there are one or two people whose stories I read, mainly because I like the people and like to see what they have written. I haven't been disappointed so far. :rose:
I guess if I had to pick a category it would be sci-fi seeing as how that's what I like in general.

Maybe I should have added a choice "Literotica has stories too?"

That would work for me. :D

Actually, I only read stories written by friends.

Oh I came here for the stories, found the forums and, well we know how it works from there.

Hey! That's what happened to me! Do you think the forums have some weird thing on them that makes it sort like a "Hotel California" - you arrive but you never leave????? :D

when i first started reading the stories on lit, i started with the hot stories of whatever category i wanted. then i found the forums...

nowadays, i try to read the stuff written by forum regulars i know. i've been spending some time over at the AH lately, and there's some incredibly talented folks hanging around there. i'd like to recommend anything written by colleen thomas, who i think is superb. ditto, rgraham666.

I tend to read stories by category, because usually I'm in the mood for a certain type of story.

From there, I go with the "hot" symbol, or favorite authors.

We do indeed. I find people are surprised when they hear I didn't come here for the stories...found the forums first.

Certainly.

I did not come here for the stories. Hell, I don't even remember why and how I stumbled upon Lit, but when I did the first page I saw was the home page. It did not appeal too much to me, but somehow I ended up on the "message boards" page and first clicked on "How To".... the rest is history. Only after a while I sort of discovered there were stories also :D

I am very (VERY!!!!) picky and (and this has nothing to do with writer skills of the authors) the first thing I read did not do that much for me. I guess in that sense I'm more visually stimulated (almost like men are  ) than by words if they are not 'exactly' the right ones, I guess. It's kinda crazy but even the wrong names used in a story can colour my mood from excited to not....

I like the written word as long as it does not differ too much from my sexual preferences... somehow (and I find that kinda strange myself) it works different with visual stimuli... where I can get VERY excited by things that actually don't do a whole lot for me in RL. I have concluded it is because I have a wild imagination and think up my own 'things' around what I see and I sort of associate them with things I do find pleasurable.

OMG, yes! rgraham666's stories are amazing!

I have to echo what some of the others have said--I rarely read the stories, except to check out stuff by people I know (or know of). Lately, though, I've been slacking.

I, too, came to Lit for the stories and stayed for the discussion boards.

I am starting to think it is more like alcohol addiction. At first you have a couple of posts, then maybe you don't post for a couple of days. Soon you are making a couple of posts on a regular basis. Eventually you become a regular, where you know the other regulars in the bar. You tell yourself you can stop posting at any time, and occasionally you do. Maybe a week goes by and you've proven you can stop, so you go back. Or maybe you say, oh, I'll only post twice and then I'm out. But somehow you end up posting five or six. Even if you do stop for a while, it is always lingering at the back of your mind everytime you go online. What could 1 post hurt?

OH NO Mr Bill! Wonder do I need a 12 step program for Lit?????

Support Group???

Do we need a support group?

My name's Spikile.
I'm from Africa, and I came here because I read about Literotica in FHM Magazine.
Ja, it started with the stories... reading them at first, then I started writing them, too. I made cool friends through the stories. But soon stories weren't enough. I was doing stories sometimes in my spare time- once a day sometimes- and pretty soon I started writing them for myself. Then I started posting them...
Then I found myself looking for more than stories. My friends just did stories, and not too much- they had their Literotica under control, but I felt different- kinda cool. I was hanging out with people from Discussion Boards, visiting Forums... Even POSTING!
You gotta help me! I can keep it under control for now, but I'm scared I'm gonna Start a New Thread or something.
Is there anything to worry about?
Is there anything I can take for it?

LOL! :D I think we do....!
Welcome to Lit Spikile.... welcome.... there's no turning back.... woahahaha!

The boards are the last of my endeavors here. I've been reading stories here for years, started writing a couple years ago and then found the boards this last summer. Now I rarely read anything and I haven't posted anything in months due to writers block, though I'm working on that.

When I read I usually hit the top lists and if I find a writer I like, add them to my favorites. I used to read the New list by category, but I got tired of having to wade through so much crap.

I go for the stories periodically, and have been doing so for several years (how I missed the boards is still a mystery  ). I usually stick to a few categories, read the taglines, and look for higher ratings. If I really, really like a particular story, I'll look at the author's other stuff. If I'm looking for specific fantasy material, I'll do a search, and have had pretty good results with that.

I don't often read the stories of those I know from the boards for arousal purposes because they're generally not in the categories I most enjoy. I have followed a few members' links because it's neat to see a different side of them.

Shit, I've been here for about 7 months and I think the longest I have gone without logging in here is 2 days. maybe 3.

Hotel california....hmmm

I left for most of last year--thought I had beat the addiction, but Lit is a demanding mistress and she pulled me back in with nary a whimper.

Hello, my name is bobsgirl, and I'm a Litoholic...

FWIW, I'm glad you came back. :)

I have favorite categories and favorite authors.

The categories sometimes leave something to be desired (I really hate the "spinner" action), but my fav authors never do. . .
