so after week 1 on the job, i'm actually happier now than when i first said yes. now sure, maybe it's a bit of "new car smell" or the usual honeymoon phase that you have for the first few months, but who knows, it's been so long since i've had a meaningful job i can't recall.
anyway. while temporary (through next year), this job is tons closer to my career aspirations than being a call center monkey.
i'm a fan of social media--those of you who know me outside of this place know this all too well i'm sure--and through it and the work i've been doing the past few years to help jobseekers, i've encountered a lot of recruiters and career coaches.
a while back one of them--whom i also know through another organization and we both have a good friend in common--emailed me out of the blue and asked the usual recruiter question: know anyone who's interested in a job as a recruiter?
fast forward to yesterday. my friend who recruited me into the business is a consultant to them and she's been my advocate inside the organization explaining that they don't grok social but that someone (me) can help them get that sorted out.
so we're on this 2 hour conference call yesterday afternoon* and my friend asks me & the HR head to stay on afterwards. i'm kinda pissed cuz i'm supposed to phone screen a pretty promising candidate for a job.
so my friend explains to the HR head that my friend & i can train all the new hires on using social media to help further the business's recruitment via social. the HR head says, "hey, i was talking with someone earlier today who told me that she was glad i was working with you & hoped it would be about social media."
why this is particularly interesting: my employer thinks they want someone to do social media for the organization. and that exchange makes it sound very possible someone = me. if this training goes well, i think that'll help persuade them to budget such a position.
so yesterday was pretty damned good!

*seriously: a 2 hr conference call? and this is apparently a weekly event. WTF?!
**those of you tuning in expecting this to have been smut, sorry to disappoint! but that does give me an idea...
