What do you think should be the top rule for surviving a horror movie? You wouldn't believe how much this is debated but I would like your opinions.

Or do you mean like, don't go into the woods with a half dead torch and no weapon when you hear gutteral growling?

The question pertains to surviving while actually being in the horror movie

Be a faster runner.
As in faster than that Bolt bloke.
Ergo you cant be caught to be murdered.

The first unexplained noise you hear, or thing you saw, you get the hell out of the house instead of staying there like its going to go away.

Don't watch it alone, especially if there is nobody else at home. I notice that it is easier for me to survive a horror film when someone joins me and we watch it together. Usually, I look for a good film beforehand (thanks to PIA from this website, I can easily access all apps I want).

Follow Scooby and Shaggy’s example. They always survive AND unwittingly capture the culprit.

I reckon it's down to character. Absolute arseholes die. Sometimes it is karma - wrongdoings catching up with them. In my writing "good" people die at the hands of monsters who happen to be human or humanoid. Those that survive tend to be gifted, wary, trust their instincts/intuition, and they have deep darkness, "bad" as well as good side.

Firstly never leave the house, never, ever .Keep all the doors windows locked, dont go to sleep

by all means, spend the night in the deserted murder house in the middle of nowhere.
