Is the rise of the need for some people to devote their time to watching the unreal world of pornography a cultural shift in the Western World, and if so, is it caused by Nature or Nurture? After all, Bertrand Russell observed that you can judge how decadent a society is by the degree of pornography it permits.

This raises a whole lot of ethical equations.
Why do you consider pornography as more unreal than any other form of fiction?
Bertrand Russell was also a randy old sod who enjoyed the pleasures of the flesh as much, if not more so, than anyone else.
And why do you equate decadence with decline?
A more open, more tolerant and accepting society is a signifier of evolved maturity, one that is confident enough in itself to embrace diversity of ideas, gender-definitions and divergent lifestyles. This is good. This is to be celebrated.

You can also judge the decadence of a society by the number of babies it murders. :)

Where is your evidence about Russell? Do you know any of Russell’s writings? I did not equate decadence with decline, Russell did. Smarter would ask you does your definition of diversity infringe on another’s freedom to believe? He asserted that: “Man is abandoned to be free.” He would ask us what do we do with freedom? Does this mean there are no boundaries to freedom? Decadence is not solely defined by pornography, it is caught up in freedoms to do, to idealise, to choose, the asserting of ethical egoism and, most importantly, how women and men omit to challenge paradigms that evolve in society that are known as harmful in the long and short term to the safety of all.

Russell's views and lifestyle were familiar during his period of CND activity.
A lot of concepts of freedom and morality were unfortunately tainted by the legacy and hangover of receding belief in supernatural sky-god entities, which infringed even on those who proudly self-styled themselves as atheists. Situational ethics are there to be used without consulting antique scripts. Of course personal freedom within yourself should never interfere with the freedoms of others. Literotica has an admirable policy of excluding underage material, which is a good example of boundaries, informed consent and mutual respect should always be basic requirements.

Fletcher’s situational ethics have been soundly refuted by thinkers such as Darwal, Rawls and Singer. Your main premise is but empty platitudes, that have no real thrust. Your ideas around Aetheism, and what you call ‘sky god entities’ has no logical conclusion as the Vienna School of Logical Positivism in 1900 dealt with metaphysics and once and for all separated Aetheism from metaphysical arguments by it's laws of Falsification and Verification. The thinkers of Logical Positivism argued that it is harder to refute the validity of metaphysics through empiricism and the falsification law, but, AJ Ayer did so, using the falsification principle which is ultra empiricism: can God be sensed? No. I rest my case.
