Francois had married her the first chance he got. It was a beautiful little ceremony in the field of lilies with Papa Auguste as their witness. Vivianne cried when she said I do and she couldn’t believe that her fortune had changed so much for the better. Francois looked so handsome in his dark suit and she wore the dress of yellow that he seemed to favor so much.
He took her on a grand tour of Europe for the honeymoon, showing her sights that she would have never guessed exhisted. The beauty of ancient structures had her in awe and each night she showed her appreciation of her husband by taking them both to the heavens and back. She never wanted for anything. He showered her with gifts even after she told him that she did not need such frivolous things.
She had been surprised to learn that Francois had purchased Monsieu De Gaulle’s Cabaret. She was even more surprised when he tore it down, leaving the place that she so hated nothing but a pile of rubble that no man could salvage. She had clung to him as workers tore down walls, breaking apart the dirty little place until there was nothing left. She thanked him with a simple kiss on the cheek and he knew just how grateful she was.
It had been almost six months since their marriage and Vivianne had begun to feel ill. She assumed it was just a cold since the snows had started to fall on the farmlands that surrounded them. It was a few weeks after that, just before Christmas, that she discovered the reason for the illness and she couldn’t help the silly little smile that crossed her face. Oh, she certainly had a Christmas gift that Francois would enjoy very much!
It was a cold afternoon, thick snow falling outside the window pane as Vivianne curled beneath her thick covers. She had taken to feeling unwell, her stomach tumbling viciously as she wished Francois were there. He always made her feel better. She let out a small sigh and then heard the door open and boots walk across the carpet covered floor.
“Francois?” She called out, lifting her head off the pillow to see her husband. “Join me?” She asked him, laying her head back down and sighing again as her stomach tossed and turned.
