This has been up for a number of times. Honesty on the net, when it's so easy to lie about everything you are.
This has been trickered by Crystal turning Flagg, and Rachel turning Roger.
Not that I, in any way see that as a bad thing. The fact that they both showed colours is a vote of trust, as I see it.

Now I know I've lied about who I am, on the net. Before I became one of Laurels' "Children".
Now I'm quite confident that most on this BB is honest to the others. I've not seen any proof otherwise. So let's leave this wonderful BB out of this.

My question is: How many of you have lied about yourself, on the net???

I know I have. And I ended up hurting a girl I liked very much. Thus deciding it was not worth it.
So now I'm Xander or Xander_dk every place I visit on the net. And I don't lie about myself anymore.
Everything I've said about myself on this BB (the best on the net, in my humble opinion.) has been the naked truth.
Which also means, that most of you, know more about my secrets, than my friends in RL do.

Let's be honest. What do you really gain by lying about yourself???

Everything I say is true, even my stories.

At this very moment I am working on two new true stories. One is about sex in a septic tank (hey, shit happens) entitled "Tornado Warning!" The other is entitled "Born Again" about a dead girl who is visited at the funeral home by some fraternity brothers on a hazing mission and she gets fucked to life. Hey, if this isn't the ultimate nonconsent story, what is? Incidentally, I got the idea for both stories from reading true comments on this BB.

Well, Xander, enough truth for now. I'm off to see if I can't get Rachel and Golden to kiss and make up.

Hi Xander,

Do I lie about myself on the net?

No! No one on this BB knows who I am, where I live or any of that. But who I am, what I share about my feelings and opinions and what I say are honest. As you've said, the people on this site know more about many secrets of mine than most of my friends in RL.

Before I found this site, I rarely participated in discussion group over the net. I have found most sites, other that specific topic groups, to be very shallow, full of bores and just very uninteresting. This is the first site I have found that I've enjoyed getting involved with. And it has been fun. I have gotten a lot of laughs in the month or so I have been talking with all of you.

I feel most of the people on here are pretty honest. Its seems to be fairly easy to spot the phonies, but that maybe from personal experience in RL.

Now to re-arrange your question.....Has my computer ever lied on the internet?

You bet your ass it has!! Every bit of information on the computer I use to connect to the net has nothing about who I really am, such as names, financial info or other personal information. Because I work with computers all the time in my business, and many of my friends work in the computer industry I know how vulnerable personal information stored on a computer is. So all the information on this computer is filled with lies. If you were to try to scan this computer it would tell you my name is "Who Cares" or "What the fuck do you want". My email address might read like "screwU@mother.com" or someother variation. Whenever I load a new program, I fill in the names with garbage. However, that is only on this computer that is connected to the net. My other computer that is not connected to the net is the one that has my personal info.

For anyone interested in seeing how vulnerable their computer really is, check out this site <www.grc.com>. There is a test on this site that (with your permission, only) will demonstrate how many holes there are in your computer. The test is called "Shields Ups". Beware, this program will benignly scan your computer, so if you are uncomfortable with that, don't do the test. However, the owner of the site is someone I have met on occassion and his big bugaboo in life is informing people how vulnerable their personal information really is.

So in that respect, my computer lies to whoever tries to scan it. With all of the high speed "internet port scanners" out there these days, you might be surprised how much personal information can be gathered from your computer without your knowledge. There are over 64,000 ports on the typical Wintel computer, and most of these are wide open for the port scanners that continually surf the net. Port scanners are machines or programs that automatically reach out into cyberspace looking for open ports on computers. They are capable of scanning tens of thousands of computers in cyberspace every minute, looking for open ports on your computer to gain access to your credit card numbers, bank account numbers, passwords, etc. If they find something interesting they lock on, enter and retrieve your rpersonal info. There is more on port scanners at the site above. It is a free site, run by an aquaintance of mine, that programs for a living. He opened my eyes

real wide.

Sorry to get so far off topic. I appreciate your honesty Xander. I've enjoyed reading your posts.

It's not the lying, it's the believing. If you start thinking you KNOW people you meet on line, you'll always end up feeling lied to.

Hey DCL, I put a post under the other thread with this heading. I wanted to say what you just did, but could not think of the words. Thanks for putting the words in my mouth for me.

I never lie on the net. Why bother, its a false atmosphere anyway. Most of us will never meet. People have to realise though that the net is like real life, full of good people, cheating people and the truly wierd. When I come on here I like to read what people have to say and by and large it rings true, chatrooms though are full of bullshit.

Still when I tell people I am 40, single, no kids, no debts, a small mortgage and pretty happy with life they do not believe me!

There have been times when I've withheld information about myself, but otherwise I'm always honest on the Net. It's so liberating to say what I'm thinking and feeling without having to worry about anyone thinking that I'm odd. It keeps me honest- I've found that participating on BBs like this helps me open up more easily to the people that I really trust.

I must say that I am 99% truthful on the net. Why share things here that are not true?

Now have I ever lied on-line? Yup. At Adult-friend-finders I have 3 or 4 personalities. I don't go there anymore & have asked them to take those "ads" off, but still get mail from there. I don't reply to it anymore.

But here I have always been truthful. I consider you all friends & I don't lie to my friends.
