Those of you who use Homestead for your sites you probably know that they are going to start charging from the end of June.

There will be no more free personal sites. Those who are already registered with them will have an extra 60 days to decide whether to stay with Homestead and pay the fee (not yet decided) or go somewhere else.

I've started this thread as a self help and to gather information about other free sites available or any other relevant information.

Please try to leave it clear for factual messages only.

Background thread to all this is:

GR's "Those of you that have websites, or are seeking cool web buttons, bars and such."

It's time to help ourselves folks...

Is it just me or has the INternet gotten noticeably suckier in the last year?

Lit excluded of course.

Thanks, p_p_man. I think there are a lot of people using Homestead for various things. Actually, there will still be a free version, but limited in size. Just personal opinion, but I think they will start to restrict image linking, or remote loading of gifs and whatnot.

But anyway, I just finished trying out www.homepagebuilders.com, and I think it pretty much sucks. The file uploading is cool, but they don't let you start with a blank page. And when I tried to edit a template, it was very difficult to do. So, I'm still looking.

(good point, p_p_man)

PS to thread...

...if you do come across anything, even if you think it's no good, please post the link on this thread so others can have a look...

thanks...

I've had this address...

...for some time now but have never gone into the site. According to the promotions page they have free hosting and free transfer and 25mb of space.

I'll be going in later on today...

I appreciate the link, but it does me no good. I don't know html, and don't have my own web page design program. Just damn.

Here's Angelfire...

...if anyone wants to look at it...

Ugh, what really sucks is I have three homestead sites, all filled up with files :(

I run my shopping directory on Homestead. That's a lot of links, a lot of banners and a lot of e-mails to the merchants I use.

Still we must soldier on somehow...

"Rule Britannia, Brit....oh sorry
Ahem- America, America..."

Cnet.com highly recommends Geocities. If I have time, I might check it out. Cnet usually knows what they're talking about.

I think a major issue will be hotlinking. A lot of places are cracking down on that now, which really sucks.

ok I thought you meant Homestead the racetrack...oh never mind! This sounds cool, but I'm too late to get it now I guess.

so far all the links require...

...some knowledge of HTML.

In case it helps this is the HTML tutorial I use. It's very easy and well laid out and FREE.

I don't know enough to create a whole website but if all else fails I'll be stepping up my tuition...

Meanwhile back to the search...

If any non-Homestead user has a decent free web hosting and site building url we'd be grateful to see your post...
