As GLBT people, how do you feel about the Holidays? Do you think we're more prone to getting (or being ) more depressed during these times? Or just a bunch of hogwash?
Do you even like the Holidays? If you don't like the Holidays, then why?
If you do like them, what are your plans for this Season?

Myself, I almost have no choice. Being born a few days before Christmas sort of put me smack dab in the middle of it all!
Nevertheless, I do happen to like Christmas wiith all it excesses and commercialsim. The music, the decorating, and the FOOD!
Maybe this thread should be the official GLBT Holiday thread. Any input regarding your feelings or plans about the Holidays (good or bad) are welcome. Anything.

Meantime, Have a Great Gay Holiday!

I enjoy the season but more for the traditional flavour we maintain in my town (largely due to me refusing to quit).

I bake about 1500 cookies and several dozen pies every Christmas. These are delivered to each and every one of my neighbours in the week prior to and the week following Christmas, usually with a card or note of introduction for those I do not know and a letter of well-wishing for those I do know.

Gay never comes into the picture unless (as happens on occasion) one of my neighbours makes a remark. (Oh, you are that gay couple from the corner house aren't you?)

Yes. Bake, bake, bake! I try to cover as many friends and loved ones as possible. My ethnic background being Argentinian, also some candies and breads from there. I try to put them in small baskets wrapped in cellophane I get cheaply at any arts & craft s store.

Yeah, sometimes I never cease to be amazed at some people will come up to me and ask, "oh is that some type of Gay dish?"

To kbate: Just tell them, "Yup we are!" with a big fat smile on your face. Kill'em with kindness I say. ;)

To Raimondin: Just tell them, "No, I'm making the fruit salad next." lol
Seriously though, when people ask really retarded questions like that, I think they are offending themselves more with thier stupidity than they are offending me.

Nice to see you DA! Yes, so true. Yeah, "fruit salad" would have been appropriate, or "fruitcake is next!" :D

I think it can be a tough time foir single people in general, because holidays are more family oriented.

I don't really see how gay enters into it at all, whether you or anyone else makes an issue of it or asks silly questions.

I agree with you, except, unfortunately, a lot of gay people are estranged from their familes because they are gay.

the holidays

i am of the same opinion. we are givers or takers...givers love the holidays, takers i would hope feel some guilt, not that it would change them...for me i love the holidays and the people that make it a positive experience for others........All you mean people suck.......but you do it so well......lol

Yes, it's the family aspect that I think makes the holiday season potentially depressing. Most of my friends and I are estranged from our families. We have to band together at this season and be a family for each other.

Sensitive topic for me at the moment.... This is my first Christmas away from my family. I am with my husband and my daugher, but i have 7 siblings and their families and my parents and many friends in another country. Heck, they're on another fucking continent altogether...

So sad at times knowing i will not be with them this year. But we decided to stay here and celebrate here - see what Christmas is like in our new home town.

We'll make it extra special - have loads of fun and do the kind of things that make us happy. Tmrw i'm going to buy our Christmas tree with my daughter

That's the spirit. Remember, you're also in their thoughts and it's only distance that separates you from them, and vice versa. Meantime, have fun picking out your Christmas tree. :)

Thanks Honey :)

We're also making sure that we take extra care in picking out their pressies and taking our time to choose the right gifts, and to wrap it up beautifully. We're (my 4 year old and me) contemplating making our own gift wrap. The personal touch is just so much more appreciated i feel.

And it also gives us something to do - we're offering our time and love - it's not just a gift.

Will mail a huge box of pressies off soon :)

A lot of people are estranged from their parents, period. Yes, it is unfortunate, but there's nothing special about it.

Well, it's because they're gay that they're estranged from their parents or family because of rejection, and not because of simply being away at some school or job out of state. These are two very different circumstances.

That's not always the reason for estrangement. Believe it or not, some people don't give a shit whether or not you're gay.

And yes, the circumstances are different. So?

So, the idea in this case is to give support to those that are impacted or affected by this predicament.

But yeah, I know what you mean.

Very few members on any side of my families are still church going. Most of the values remain without the pomp. We have a good system of alternating who spends which holidays where from year to year. My step family is kind of a trip to deal with but they're good people. They're closer to my brother since he lived with them for a while when he was in college. I've lived away from my family since I was sixteen and have always been in relationships, not living alone.
We have an alter here at my house from Halloween on and it evolves with the change of the season and is removed after Yule. As Pagans, the new year has already passed so the calender New Year on Jan 1 isn't a ritual day other than getting loaded. :D
I've inherited our sixth generation St Nicholas alter statue that appraised quite well. He gets a year round place in the living room attached with earthquake putty to a marble pedastle that's wired to the wall. Three generations of rosary beads hang on him and he has his space adorned with various symbolic do-das.
I love the music of the holidays and like to sing and play guitar. :) Luckily I came from a high school with a massive, well-known music department so I got great exposure to choral and orchestral music. We even have four record albums from each year I performed. My daughter thinks its cool to play those old fashioned black things.

Raimondin you bake cookies??
Aaaaw, cuteness! I can just picture you with a santa-hat and a huge bag of fresh-baked chocolate cookies! :)
I usually spend some time with my parents(I live with them-I'm 19 still..), but usually on holidays I have a tremendous desire to spend as much time possible with my friends.
I like the whole holiday atmosphere and especially when streets are full of happy people and the city feels ALIVE.

Sometimes I feel lonely though, cause Christmas and NewYear bring me melancholy and I remember all the good and bad times..and how it's all gonna probably be forgotten..and I get emotional...

Anyway, I am going on a trip to a mountain with some friends for three days and I hope it will be the start of wonderful days yet to come :)

Summary: Holidays---> I luv them!

How sweet! Don't forget the sleigh bells!

Yes I agree. I love the excitement and happy faces of people in the malls or squares. I love wearing winter garb, scarfs, gloves, flannel.

Yes loneliness in a nostalgic sort of way. Even when I'm at a party or at a Christmas feast, that feeling hits me. It's very emotional. Christmas music also does that to me.

Christmas music does that to me too..
I don't know why, but during Christmas time I tend to sing all the time.(well, I do that anyway..)
But what usually comes to mind is 'What a wonderful world'(Louis Armstrong)
"I see skies of blue...and clouds of white...
The bright blessed day, and the dark sacred night..
and I say to myself..what a wonderful world.."
It's really christmas-y, me thinks :)

That reminds me. Any special Christmas music favorites out there? I mean, besides the usual Carols we all know.

Here' some of my favoirites:

1. A Winter's Solstice IV (Windham Hill Artists)

2. Mistletoe & Wine - (Mediaeval Babes)

3. To Drive The Cold Winter Away - (Loreena Mckennitt)

4. The Visit - (Loreena Mckennitt)

I absolutely love the holiday season. I'm single, bi, in the closet, and I got a big fat lit-up plastic Santa on my porch.

I spent a great childhood, always with lots of family members at holiday time. I was married for 18 years... again, always with family at holiday time. This is my second Christmas without the big family (not includiing the years between leaving home and getting married), and I still love the season. I'm putting my Christmas tre up on Sunday, I've got stacks of Christmas music to play and I'm gonna do my shopping for my straight friends and family in The City this weekend at all the gay-owned shops I can find. It's the most wonderful time of the year!

Besides... Christmas songs are the only ones I know all the words to by heart.

:)

I have a hard fake cock up my ass right now. I will fuck my ass very soon with a BIG FAT cock very soon!

Thank you for blazing the trail!

Beautiful beautiful album... love her hair - all of it!

For a more classical approach:

Tapestry of Carols: Maddy Prior (In dulci jubilo is breathtaking...)
and
The Elegance of Pachelbel. That specific album has me mesmerized every time.
