"His name is John Coltrane!"

Jazz fans are such snobs.

Nope - its not about being snobbish. I've played in rock bands, classical orchestras, punk bands, jazz bands. I love all music. Its not about being snobbish its about a bit of history and a bit of perspective. Its the ignorance that bothers me. Without Brubeck there would never have been a Bens Folds Five.

Well, so many "Jazz Afficianados" slam Kenny G. The guy's an incredible player, one of the best in the world. I'm not a big Kenny G fan but I do have the ability to recognize the difference between him and Yanni and to give credit where credit is due.

Yes, he's fluffy as all get out, but he can flat out play. But, he's ridiculed by "jazz" listeners constantly, most of whom only listen to Jazz because they thinks it's cool to do so. It's this kind of arrogance that inspired my comment.

I should have said a lot of jazz fans that I have encountered are snobs. Gonna take five now.

Well - maybe this is going to sound snobbish after all but...

While Kenny G has good tone and technique the actual music he plays, in my opinion, is no better than glorified elevator music. Its mindless instrumental drivel no better than bubblegum pop (BAD bubblegum pop). Just cause he has chops doesn't mean he has taste.

I grew up in the 60's and 70's. Raised on folk, rock, polka, classical...

I heard of Coltrane in the 90's. I know have some of his work along with a lot of other Jazz, R&B, and other wide-ranging styles.

But many of us were raised by people who didn't listen to black music. They were in their 20's. Give 'em some time.
