High school football racks up body counts. If the NFL had a body count, it would be on every news station around, but what's a few high schoolers? Every year more children die, yet so far has anything changed? Quote of the season goes to Dawn Comstock:

"These events are incredibly tragic," said Dawn Comstock, an associate professor at the University of Colorado School of Public Health.

"I would love to never see another high school athlete die while they play their game but the positive benefits of playing sports in terms of lifelong health are greater."

Deadly month in high school football

No solutions, no hope. Just, kids will die, but it's worth it in the long run. There are solutions out there. Medical personnel monitoring training. More extensive physicals, before players are allowed to take the field. Zero tolerance for certain hits. Not being a football fanatic, I would love to hear your thoughts and opinions on deaths related to high school football.

It's mostly heart problems. I'd like to know what drugs these kids were on. Roids etc etc.

you are incorrect. heart related issues are labeled as indirect causes of death to football players, along with dehydration. direct causes happen on the field. last year they were about equal.

Yeah but this is from just reading the first few lines of your link.

Williams' death was the fifth of a U.S. high school football player since early September. Another high school football player died just last Friday.

The 5-foot-11-inch, 300-pound junior collapsed September 22 shortly after football practice began, CNN affiliate WSB reported. The school trainer performed CPR until an ambulance arrived, according to the station.

His death was heart-related, Burke County Coroner Susan Salemi told CNN, declining to elaborat

If banning football would save the life of one child, civilized society should insist upon it. You know how many children died in England last year from playing American football? None.

i forgot! you only care about children while they are in the mommy's tummy.

Being a former high school and collage football player I will say this. There is no way to prevent certain hits from happening, zero tolerance or not. It is a fast paced game. It only gets faster the further up the food chain you go.

Don't get me wrong, I do advocate for proper teaching of 'Heads up' football by all coaches. I suffered 6 severe concussions throughout my time playing. I do suffer from a lot of the symptoms from post concussive syndrome and never want another kid to have to deal with another concussion. Teaching is the key. That starts with kids starting out and competent coaches.

I agree with the better physicals. If they are still as general as they were when I was in high school they are not even near what you should have to be cleared to play any sport.. not just football.

You have a valid argument though Im just pointing out some of the causes.

They all know the risks before they join these teams.

Footballs a drag in my opinion anyhow.

i know several people with children in pee wee football, and it's crazy how hard those little people hit. If prevention is key, how do you judge that, and if you can't provide it, do you pull the program from the school?

Pop Warner or pee wee football is where it needs to start! These coaches should be 'Heads Up' certified. The problem lies most of the coaches didn't learn this way. I was taught to hit with the shoulder pads first, don't spear, but I got the best results and was encouraged when I hit with the forehead of my helmet making contact with the underside of the other persons chin.

Education starting with the coaches at the youngest level is the only way to prevent fatal and damaging head trauma. I don't think pulling the program will ever happen.

I have a suggestion. Look up the statistics of high school aged kids are paralyzed from football each year.. That doesn't seem to be getting much attention these days.

You are so full of disingenuous shit: if you had your druthers, football - just like Amendment II right to bear arms uninfringed citizen gun possession - would be abolished for the safety of those you don't rate as either caring or as wise as you.

Now tell us how all those imbeciles who play football are no different than penis-substitute gun owners...

Theres very little you can do to monitor or control the situation. You need to change the entire culture of the game and the fans and thats not going to happen.

Facts are these kids will become more doped up, faster stronger meaner and more people are gonna die.

Go to a high school football game and watch the crowd. Not the game. The parents.

Tells you all you need to know.

Nows a great time too as the playoffs are on all over the US.

They can! I coached 10-11 year olds for a few years.. It starts getting scary when they get about 13. That's when they are hitting puberty and getting bigger and stronger. Most of all they feel invincible. This is when you start getting bigger and bigger injuries. Whether its a concussion or completely destroy a knee..

Where are you getting these stats?

Oh so is this where you deny these kids all eat creatine and drink red bull and a lot use roids?

Of course not. I just wanted to know where you got your "doped up" facts? You don't need to get all defensive dude, its a conversation.

I just hope your "facts" aren't based on some form of bias or stereotyping.

and you don't eat creatine. You drink it.. It comes in powder form. Unless that's changed. I haven't had any in a while.

This is all bullshit if you ask me. You people created this monster now you want to whine about it? You dress these people up like "warriors" with armor and promote the brutality of it on tv every day and expect Winners.

You have three hundred pound kids plying against 125 lb kids. Freight trains taught to clobber and demolish their opponents with their parents screaming encouragement from the stands. Kill kill kill win win win.

Dafuq did you expect?

Have you ever played? There is some of that, but that's not what its all about.

and not every parent is a screaming, foaming at the mouth psychopath.

I played no touch flag football. lol

On a church league ffs.

I did play hockey for 6-7 years. Talk about injuries.

HEY! That's pretty close!

and the 125 pound kids are taught to avoid the 300 pound ones.. plus they are usually a tad bit quicker.

Yeah but even then we would cheat and wrap the flag inside the belt one time making it hard to pull.

and you're saying football is a brutal blood sport! At least we encourage bashing each others heads in while wearing a helmet.. fucking hockey players a nuts.
