Considering I was at one point drinking from a bottle of Scotch, its difficult to say how many drinks I had. Way more than usual, I rarely drink.

I suspect you may be seeking a chance to punce on myself, thats ok. I have been suffering from 'news' hangover recently and have not been reading or viewing much about the currency change.

I'll air my opinon with limited tangible knowledge. While the Euro will have economic benefits once its implementation is complete and its value stablizes...I think the implication that it will create a European world force is overstated(not specifically citing you, pp man, but an overall perception viewed by some).

Europe seems to have a political resentment of the United States, much less so in Britain but apparent on the continent. I see the European Union trying to find its role in the world and how to conduct itself politically and economically. Its unclear how welcoming the world, especially regions of Africa and Asia that are sensitive to the former 'colony' mentality, will receive the new Union. The Euro is the action which will allow us to assess the success of the Union.

I wouldnt claim to know enough to form a valuable opinion so I'm merely sharing my thoughts at the moment, without much formulation.
