My university blocks access to Morpheus on the grounds that it "promotes excessive use of bandwidth". Can't quite square that with the freedom of speech element in the university's constitution, but hey, at least Audiogalaxy works. That's my gripe of the day for today.

OpenNap is suffering from the reality of P2P networks- everybody wants to get, nobody wants to give and they really can't charge for acess so they get increasingly popular and strain the servers that don't have the money to be upgraded.

Wizzie, Today my Morpheus started having a grey pop up window come up saying that my version of Morpheus is too old to connect. I am still connected, and have people downloading.

i have just read that they changed some fasttrack protocol or so and that at the moment morpheus is down for most users.

Maybe not today, Maybe not tomorrow, but it will happen the day after that. With no means of financial infrastructure and a growing problem (The fasttrac/open nap system is larger than napster was at it's peak) the routing servers (AKA napigator servers) are often going to be stressed. Audiogalaxy is already suffering from some problems (However these are only for the website, the actual directing servers are a-ok.... today).

Basically.

They cannot survive as is. They will charge you someday. Then all hell will break loose. (Legally, and more than it already has, Kazaa, one of the users of the fasttrac system has been sued and lost in court. They're supposed to stop users from trading copyrighted material)

Here's the basics, wiz. P2P means Peer-to-Peer, you trade from one user to another. It's gotten popular because it's harder to shut down (But not impossible). Right now, Morpheus is popular with users, but not the media (Basically cos fasttrac is slower and doesn't dl things as well, plus Napster was the breakthrough, this is the copycat). Microsoft, in a fit of utter and utter insanity, wants to do with http (the service that makes the web possible) because it isn't http (they're trying to kill the internet as it is)(Source: Yesterday's slashdot).

Um... So basically.. um.. where was I?

Oh yeah. I use many parentheticals (Which some people will argue is not a word, but they're wrong) to the point where it's hard to get my original meaning.

Oh and Microsoft is bad. Very bad. I do not like them.

One thing to add, has anyone had problems logging in on Morpheus? I've tried three different usernames and re-registering with a new name, but it still keeps telling me password is invalid....

Okay, I'l make an ass out of myself by admitting my computer/internet illiteracy...
I joined Morpheus...but have only been able to download one song, and that downloaded into my old Napster file folder...is tehere some sort of download that goes with Morpheus, like a search engine/my files folder system like Napster had. If so, where do i download it?
If you can help me with this, please PM me, or e-mail me...I'm getting pretty frustrated with this...

Just downlaod KaZaA.... it is like a copy of Morpheus (or Morpheus is the copy??) and work really nicely. I use this two and Audiogalaxy (http://www.audiogalaxy.com/) since the downfall of Napster.

Just a little update for ya'll

Recently Kazaa announced that they were responsible for Morpheus' shutdown? Why? Cos Morpheus hadn't paid them.

Morpheus comes back and says that Kazaa can go into a user's machine and change the registry settings (basically everything about your computer) when you connect.

Yikes.
