Here, Captain, Captain... (Adopt a Grasshopper thread)

I have a new friend who is very shy and afraid that we evil old authors are going to bite him and chew him and then spit him out like old gum. I TRIED to tell him we don't do that... but he doesn't seem to believe me that the water is fine, and he should jump on in instead of dabbling his cute little toes.

SO!!! I got this idea from the HIM forums I belong to- let's start adopting Grasshoppers (or n00bs as you L33T S43^|<3RS call them)! If you want to adopt a shy newcomer and help them find their confidence here in the AH, or you're a newcomer wanting a mentor and friend to help you find your way, post here.

I nominate Captain Midnight to be my Grasshopper. I will love him and pet him and call him Cappy, and hold his hand when we cross new threads, and help him look both ways for oncoming political threads and flamewars.

And I love my Grasshoppers Steph and Chelsea from the HIM forums.. as soon as they're of age, I'm going to adopt them here too.

Well, if he's going to be so shy that he won't post openly and PMs me instead.. I will still call him a Grasshopper. But I'll adopt other Grasshoppers, if they want to be adopted. I like them.. they're so cute and green and cuddly-prickled..

Come on people, if the GB has adopted N00bs, we can do it too! And probably better.

(No, really I wouldn't do that... but the mental picture was fun.. I had a momentary flash of him leapign like a cartoon character straight up, hair stuck out, eyes bugging, adn those cute blue shoes flying off his feet, from a microscopic little pleading orphan eyed grasshopper named Falling. )

I only saw a couple of episodes of "Kung Fu" (the first one), but I know the name from that series. I kind of hope it's available on DVD. I think I'd like to see them.

Interestingly, I teach a chess class and drew up a set of principles for the students based on Tae Kwon Do principles. I've had some friendly conversations with the woman who runs an academy and teaches in one of the other rooms (I always call her "Master" and bow if I come into the room), and gave hewr a copy of my principles.

That said, I will call you Master even though you are female. What surname would you like to have?
