I'm writing a story (non erotic, kinda) based around the concept of corruption. I'm trying to find a way to take an ordinary woman from nice girl to evil rapist bitch. Its not that hard to do, but I don't want it to sound contrived or stereotypical. So I thought I would consult the friendly pervs here at lit. So what are your thoughts. How could a normal woman come to be a rapist without the intervention of a male partner. It's important that she be a somewhat self made woman.

Thanks

I always feel that character evolution works best when the character is forced to make a choice between two unpleasant alternatives. For example, she is very moral and would never steal anything. But she lost her job and has no money, and her children are starving. Something's gotta give, and it does: she grits her teeth and steals some food.

Now, for the rest of her life, she is a person who has stolen. Her self image has changed forever. As does her personality.

A couple of crises like this, and you can turn someone into a completely different person by the end of the story.

I don't know what kind of crisis would turn someone into a rapist, of course, but that's your job as the author! Good luck!.......Carney

Carney your silly. Rape is supposed to be all about control, as in your mine I can do whatever I want to you so spread your legs. I'm rahter missing all about control since there's sex in there, if it was all about control there wouldn't be any sex, it would be all about making her or him do everything the rapist says.

Anyway, back on topic, generally rapists are acting out to make themselves feel better or take control of someone who was really controlling of them. Generally parents, brothers/sisters for showing dominance over someone who had the control. Strangers of the same sex for the making themselves feel better, which is in retaliation of something done to them by bullies or family members. Usually both come to think of it.

So in your case i think the best approach would be she is suppressed by her parents and whoever she first takes. ;)

How about both?

Carney's idea is solid. emap's is too, but not entirely true. But they aren't mutually exclusive.

Yes, a real, male rapist is all about control, and certainly your character would need that element. But a female rapist wouldn't necessarily need that, or at least it need not be the primary motivation.

Carney's point is true for developing any character, or more importantly changing a character believably through the course of a story. You can use it, even if the end result is to change her into a control freak, someone who's need to control things goes beyond reason into rape.

But a female rapist could be motivated by revenge, disappointment, or other factors.

She was humiliated by a guy or girl or couple.
She was rejected by a guy or girl or couple, then made her way in the world, and is now desirable.
She had to choose between a guy and her career, chose career, but now she wants him, too, but he won't have her.

I think with anything you come up with, the key to avoiding any contrived feeling is to add depth to it, and make sure any preconditions are firmly in place before the reader is aware that they are needed. If a guy needs a gun to save himself during a store robbery, it's no good to have a previous customer leave it lying on a shelf by accident. You set up, from the beginning, that he owns a gun, and carries it because he was mugged once when he was younger.

I think the harder part of all this is how you make a woman into a rapist, versus a seductress. Rape is forced. How does a woman force herself on a man? Like many male rapists, he'll be flacid. It's doable, but not very erotic. Or does she force herself on women? There's certainly potential there.

In answer to some previous posts, she goes after women primarily. Though if she really felt a male deserved it she'd probably do him too. Anyway, thanks guys. You've been really helpful. I'll try to let everyone know when it's done. Thanks!

:D Cool. I'd like to see that story when it's done...

I wrote a story (not on Lit) related to this topic. How I did it: my protagonist had been raped years ago, hated the loss of control more than anything else; from there on, she had to be in control during sex.
Against her better judgement, she found herself caring for a female pet belonging to a dominatrix whom she loathed (constantly butting heads). The pet started caring for the protagonist in return. Then the dom found out about it, sexually punished her slave out of jealousy and hate (rather than control, because she knew she's already lost control of her pet). My protagonist snapped and took revenge in the "eye for an eye" way; which made everything worse down the road...

The character changed a lot over the course of several stories; like Carnevil9 said, once she'd raped that one time, it changed how she saw herself forever, and her personality kept evolving.

Would love to see how you do it! :) Good luck writing!

You want to change someone? mind fuck them. Break them down mentally and rebuild them. Maybe have the woman that is doing this to the main character make the main character fall in love with her and then find ways to shatter that love. Maybe have this woman when she rapes the main character she finds a way to emotionally rape her at the same time. You want to make sure that the main character can't shut her mind down or focus on something else while her body is being raped.
