Help! Spider!

I've had a centipede crawl over my pillow while I was getting ready to leave the house, just hoping it wouldn't be there when I got back.
you mean....you just let it go away?! What if it came back while you were sleeping?:eek:

I am astonished that no one has spoken out on behalf of the poor spider. Didn't any of you read Charlotte's Web? What's the matter with you?

Seriously, spiders take care of the other bugs in your house. They're good to have around. We almost never kill our spiders -- we let them scurry back into the shadows.

Of course, everyone in the family is spider tolerant. If my wife was afraid of them, we probably have to adopt a different policy.

and STILL no spider. It's hiding. Somewhere. It's waiting, I just know it. It's waiting for him to go to work, and THEN it will scurry out of its hiding place...

Unfortunately, you took your eyes off the spider when you barricaded yourself in the other room. They like to disappear the second you look away.

 That doesn't make them paranoid, Cat...it makes them divorce you!

Notice where I said "Ex's" Bed?

I'm not completely without mercy. If it's soon to be ex, with the possibility of reconciliation then I would suggest against this.

On the other hand if it is the type like GG's soon to be ex, I would recommend a box full of mixed live Scorpians.

OMG this is awful, I'm going to have to abandon my own thread because it's making me physically ill!!!

Selena ... abandon your own thread?!?!?!

Now keep your pants on, dear. Eh ... well, the phrase just doesn't apply at the moment, huh? :D

Truly, let the spider make it's web. Then, during the day save the remains of a swatted fly or two. When your "hubby" gets home have him fling the dead flies into the web. The spider should scurry out for "dinner," providing the opportunity to smoosh it.

Hope this does the trick, eh ... "sweet cheeks." ;)

We had, what I think was a wolf, or a trap door spider living in the garage sink for a few months last fall. I wanted to kill it, but the boys wanted it for a pet. So it lived in the drain of the sink. I made the boys go out and catch the occasional bug, usually a grasshopper from the yard. We threw the poor victim in the sink and watched. As the grasshopper tried to get its bearings, we could see a hairy leg poke out from the drain, somehow our pet knew, the chase was at hand. As quick as lightening, the spider was out of the drain and the feeder bug was history.

I had scary dreams the whole month, but the boys loved it. At one point, the spider stopped coming out of the drain. I dont know if he/she escaped, or died of what. That was probably the worst part!

Awww... that spiders a lil' cutie. That rascal will keep your casa pest free.

We have umpteen varieties here in the tropics--4 of 'em deadly.

And some will leave a welt big as a dime.

But they're all cool. Just gotta give 'em space. :D

Don't talk to me about deadly spiders. *shudder* Sydney Funnel Web
Damned 8-leggers, can't stand 'em.
Give me snakes, insects, centipedes any day. But keep your damned spiders!

Whoa! Now the Funnel Web spider is a whole 'nother bucket of arachnids!

That beauty can bite through a boot. As you know. And it's venom--woo!

I'll take our Black, Brown and Red widow spiders--and the Brown Recluse any day.

People here are scared of spiders, snakes, lizards, wasps, even bumblebees.

Fraidy cats. :D

Grab some sort of areosal can and spray the living hell out of it! It will fall, you will scream and jump back, then take a breath and assualt that damn, wicked thing again with more areosal, coat that baby. Either it will curl up in a ball or you'll have an advantage of height on him. . . You will tower over the evil and you can crush it with a book, shoe, bookshelf. :D

edit~ (fool already said it    I need coffee)
:D I say go with the areosal can but with a twist...as you start to spray it light it with a lighter...instant flame thrower. Just make sure to hit the spider and not all the contents of the house ;)

Seriously I dont like the things either. I'm still well known for the story of my naked spider dance done in the kitchen with all the blinds open when a very large spider ran across my foot!

In last night's "Law and Order-Special Victims Unit", Cynthia Nixon played a Ph.D. Spider expert. She told another character at one point,

"Whereever you are in the world, you are never more than six feet from a spider."

Spiders aren't all bad, except for the big hairy ones!

Oh gee thanks you always know just the right thing to say!

HANDLE it!??!? HANDLE it!?!??!?! I don't even want to be in the same STATE with this thing!!!

You want me to capture it!? Are you INSANE!?!?!?

If I could get past my paralyzing fear long enough to get NEAR it, I'd crush it with something really fricking heavy... anyone have an anvil???

But unfortunately, I completely freeze--then I scream and run the other way.

A vaccume works really well 'specially when it has a long wand so you don't have to get close.

Have you ever seen hedge balls in the groc store? They are not edible but you put them in closets and stuff and let them slowly mummify and they repell insects, and spiders.

In the tropics, rooms are open and the whole ecology seems to come in freely. It takes a bit of getting used to.

no no no no no...

that is SO VERY WRONG!!!!!

The outside belongs OUTSIDE, damnit!

Still no sign of the damned thing. He ransacked the house last night looking for it. Said he was going to hook up a "cricket trap" (you know, like you do to catch bunnies?) They went out cricket hunting but didn't catch one last night.

So now I'm alone again, and I'm sure the spider knows it.

I'm up in my room again, but paranoid it came up here in the night.

I wish they couldn't walk on walls.

This spider doesn't build webs... and it's VERY, VERY, VERY fast. It's one of those hunter kind. I think, though, it's the reason I don't have a lot of flies in the house at the moment. Which is a tradeoff. I swear, if it would stop coming out, I would live happily in denial... but it SCURRIES on those eight creepy legs, and I can't STAND it...

*shudder*

Selena, it's time to show the critter who's boss. Grab your hairspray and a big flyswatter and go hunting. I used to be terrified of them. I mean to the point that I called my dad to come over and kill them for me. After you kill your first one, it gets easier. Now I can even pick them up and take them outside, as long as they aren't too big.

Raid ® Fumigator works great at controlling:

· Roaches

· Palmetto Bugs

· Waterbugs

· Ticks
· Mosquitoes

· Flies

· Ants

· Spiders

You have to leave the house for three hours or so and air the house out for anothr hour or two, but you don't have to search for the bugs to kill them.

Ohhhh that was mean...

And I quoted you! So what does that make me? :p
:) I should go back, edit my entry with a different photo and then yell "I've been Framed!"

I love Brown Recluse Spiders. We used to play with them when we were kids. You bugger them with a stick and they chase you. Then when we tired of the game, we stepped on them - no more spider.

The Western US only has a very few spiders that are harmeful - Brown Recluse, Black Widows, Idaho has a little yellow fucker that gives a nasty bite and one of the Mexican Tarantulas you see in Arizona and New Mexico.

Tarantulas are fun too, almost friendly. They will even follow you around like a dog.

Snakes are a different story. :(

Nope, not afraid of snakes. Or rats. Or mice. Or bees.

Just spiders.

My dad used to chase my mother around the house with them, though, trying to "cure" her of her fear. Then, when I was afraid of them, he'd do it to me, too.

Am I the only woman here who isn't scared of spiders and would have no trouble just walking over there and taking it outside?

Ten legs, however, is my limit. Those millipedes and centipedes are just way too creepy.
Nah... You're not the only woman who isn't afraid. The only creepy crawlies I make a point of not messing with are scorpions. And even then... If NOBODY else was around to take care of it... I'd do it. But I'd probably catch him in a clear container so I can take pictures of it and and then keep an eye on it while I transport it to... wherever. I don't really have the heart to kill anything... Except for flying critters that can sting me. Those suckers get chemical baths.

Get some RAID!!! That's what I do now. It's easier than a shoe and you have the assurance that the little eight legged freak crawls off and dies. Or you could use a vaccuum with a really long attachment and suck him up. *shudder* I can't do it for you, but I'd be more than willing to offer emotional support. Good Luck.
