Help !! Problem with Thread Replies

I have noticed two types of threads, two different ways you can reply:

The first you can only reply to the bottom of the thread. When you go to a posting in the middle of the thread, there is no little "reply" tab in the lower left of that post.

(Because of this, there is no reply "tree" at the top of the page, if I am using Hybrid mode.)

The second you can reply to any post within the thread, and there is a tree at the top that has many steps.

I want to know how to create both, but I need to know to ensure that I can create the second asap: I have a thread I want to post quickly.

Any help will be rewarded ...

what you are describing is known in VB as nested view. this view is not used by all lit users (which is also true of any other VB-powered discussion forum).

this is a setting selected by each individual user. assuming that all other users are using that view, or creating a thread with that assumption, is probably not a great idea, i'm afraid.

Most users use Linear Mode, which has all the attributes you are looking for.

It seems to me the quote button should do all you need. Once your story gets moving the multi-quote should help to keep everyone on the same page so to speak.

Either that or I'm missing the point entirely.

You could also ask in the Author's Hangout as I would imagine this has been tried before.
